So, early yesterday I agreed to buy a new Jeep Wangler. A hour later after I left the dealership this announcement comes out. Dio I follow through or back out? The dealership never mentioned this was happening (they may not have known at that point). I am supposed to take delivery this afternoon.

My opinion is follow through and enjoy the new Wrangler. Jeep is certainly going to be a prominent part of the company going forward. There is a plan now. One or two months ago that might not have been the case. For whatever it's worth, I'm planning to shop for a Dodge vehicle within the next month or two.

Where have I heard that phrase, "I have a plan" before? Hmmm... Just maybe, just maybe, finally with Fiat's diesel expertise we may "finally" be able to purchase a Jeep Wrangler with the engine that it should have always been offered with, a nice fuel efficient torquey diesel. Can you imagine it? Full torque at a low speed crawl I don't care what brand name diesel goes under the hood, be it Cummins, Toyota, Fiat, Navistar, just stick a stinking compression ignited air pump under there, oh and with the very good Mercedes sourced 6-speed.

Just trying to be a little optimistic here. Sometimes I lose track of what I am supposed to be worried about this week (job uncertainties, corporate bankruptcies, 401K losses, terrorist attack, Swine Flu).

If your basing it all on "trust" and you need a truck in the 3/4 to 1 ton range for towing, who DO you trust? Dodge? GM? Ford, though not borrowing any money now, is also losing money. Going to have to work with someone, or everyone is going to have to get rid of their big TT's and 5er's and look for 1/2 tons that will be available in a year, that will be able to tow our smaller 5er's and TT's. Guess we WILL need someone else to come up with some 3/4 ton, 1 ton SRW & DRW 1 ton's if we're following this logic and not going to "trust" any of the Big Three, I mean, I don't particularly have much faith in them either right now. Sort of a "crap shoot".............

I read the restructuring FAQ`s. I loved the one about the $2.99 gas card. I actually forgot all about that one. I guess that is one place that Chrysler was smart to offer!

Like I said previously. Chrysler will continue to operate as normal.

What needs to happen is the press needs to stop giving the impression that Chrysler is gone. they always try and twist the truth around to make the story more appealing so people will want to read or hear it.

I agree, but it will probably never happen. Any chance they get to bad mouth Detroit's builders of those evil SUV's will be capitalized. They will never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

The funny part is the dealers still insist they are swamped but the lots are empty of people. I hope this straitens them out.
by the way how can they do warranty work work without parts from suppliers that were never paid and stopped sending parts

I stopped by auto row in Mount Vernon, Wa the other day. Looked a little like the lunar landscape! Was poking around the 3500 RAMs and the salesman walked up. Asked him how things were going? He said great we are selling trucks like mad.

"To WHO?" Not another customer in site anywhere on auto row!

dodge guy, as expected there is lots of silly speculation being thrown out here by the GM and Ford guys who are having a field day with this. Also, the press as we know loves to serve up doom and gloom and Chrysler's bankruptcy fits right in when they overlook the facts and add in their own brand of "journalism". Like you said, it will be business as usual. Sure sales will fall during the short time Chrysler is under bankruptcy protection due to the stigma of buying from a bankrupt manufacturer, but it will pass. There will be no long drawn out proceedings. Warrantees will not be affected. There will be some changes though, some of the slower selling dealers will close and a few of the factories will be sold off. Unfortunately for my area, the St.Louis plant is one of those to be sold. This will no doubt hurt Chrysler sales in the greater St. Louis area and surrounding areas due to workers being let go, and folks disappointed by there friends, neighbors, and relatives losing their job. However, Ford left the area a few years ago, and they are still selling vehicles locally so the impact may not be that much. I am still saddened at the thought of so many local hard working men and women losing their job at the Fenton MO plants that I grew up with.

But this thread gives the GM and Ford guys a chance to blow off steam. Go ahead bashers, have at it! The ramblings of a few have little bearing on the real story which is the upcoming formation of a new and vibrant company. Chrysler is here to stay, and will be around for years to come.
