Finally, Ford may be bringing a new Ranger to our shores, hopefully produced here. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/05/spi........-ford-ranger-t6-global-small-pickup.html
Bummer is it is unlikely that the great 3.0 Duratorq engine will be available here. Wouldn't that be a great combination for towing a decent size popup?

Will take some getting used to but glad to see that they will finally offer a full door four door ! I loved the three Rangers I had previously. Great little trucks.

I hope they refine the look. I have had two Rangers and one Mazda, loved them all.

Also on my 3rd Ranger. Great little trucks. But that's the problem for me. The new size looks like a mid size like the Dakota, etc. I wouldn't bother with a mid size, just go for a full size halfer.

If they had offered that diesel in the current size Ranger I would be first in line!!!

I'd be OK with the slightly larger size as long as the fuel economy is good. None of the current smaller trucks (Tacoma, Frontier, Dakota, Colorado) seem to be much more fuel efficient than their full size brothers.

It's about time.

PS - here is what 2009 left-hand drive global Ranger looks like:

And a drawing of the next one:

Your username holds true. You do know your Dodges.

If comparing the Tacoma to a Titan the difference is significant. If comparing a Dakota to a Ram, there is little real world difference.

The Toyota and Nissan midsized trucks are more fuel efficient than the Dodge and Chevy midsize trucks. The Dodge and Chevy fullsize trucks are more fuel efficient than the Toyota and Nissan fullsize trucks. Therefore there is a noticeable mpg difference in the Toyota and Nissan brands and little difference in the Dodge and Chevy brands.

If anyone is interested I did the same brand comparisons below -

Tacoma 2 door small engine 4x2 - 20/26
Tundra 2 door small engine 4x2 (same as large Taco engine) - 15/19

33% further per gallon city
37% further per gallon highway
----
Tacoma 4 door large engine 4x4 - 16/20
Tundra 4 door large engine 4x4 - 13/17

23% further per gallon city
18% further per gallon highway
----
Frontier 2 door (access cab) small engine 4x2 - 19/23
Titan 2 door (access cab) 4x2 - 12/17

58% further per gallon city
35% further per gallon highway
----
Frontier 4 door large engine 4x4 - 15/19
Titan 4 door 4x4 - 12/17

25% further per gallon city
12% further per gallon highway
----
Dakota 2 door small engine 4x2 - 16/20
Ram 2 door small engine (same engine as above) 4x2 - 14/20

14% further per gallon city
Same distance per gallon highway
----
Dakota 4 door large engine 4x4 - 14/19
Ram 4 door large engine 4x4 - 14/20

0% further per gallon city
5% less distance per gallon highway
----
Colorado 2 door small engine 4x2 - 18/24
Silverado 2 door small engine 4x2 - 15/21

20% further per gallon city
14% further per gallon highway
---
Colorado 4 door large engine 4x4 - 14/19
Silverado 4 door large engine 4x4 - 13/18

8% further per gallon city
6% further per gallon highway

ECOBOOST is simply Ford's marketing of "pretend green" HIGH HP engines to the "boy-racer" mentality crowd. In order to turbocharge an engine it must be heavily derated/detuned, LOW CR, when running off-boost, the way it will run, HORRID FE, for the rest of us 99% of the time.

Ford should build a new Ranger modelled after the Honda Ridgeline or the Toyota A-BAT concept. And use an Atkinson/Miller/West cycle smallish I4 engine. Eliminate the throttle plate via the use of a variable speed positive displacement SuperCharger along with variable intake valve closing delay to adjust the CR dynamically when boost is required.

Frustrated that I current cannot buy a crew cab PU without a HUGE gas hogging engine, V8's only in the case of the BALLOONED out F-150. I would seriously consider buying a Ridgeline were it not FWD and POOR FE.
