In order to join they require your VIN#?? No thanks, I'll pass. Yes, I'm sure they are simply overwhelmed with requests from the tens of thousands of PW owners clamoring to get in to spam their little group. I think they do the brand a disservice with a snotty email like this.

Email received:

> Hello:
>
> Thank you for your interest in the Pleasure-Way Owners
> Group, To protect the group from unwanted solicitations please provide > me with your serial number (VIN) of your Pleasure-Way for ownership > verification.
>
> Please try to respond within one week. If you can
> not respond in this time frame you will be denied and you will have to
> re-apply. This is the only way I can manage the number of requests.

We joined. Thought it was kinda strange though. There's more info here by the way.
I can say, we haven't received ANY solicitations or spam at all, (that we know of), from any Yahoo group we belong to.

Turns out the moderator of that group is a PW employee and they seem to feel only known PW owners can join that group. I told her to ask Phil or Neil who I was if she still had doubts.

Really quite silly.

She let me in based on my last email regarding checking with Phil or Neil.

Well, it is the Pleasure-Way Owners Group...

VIN # is easiest way to verify.

I have seen many unmoderated yahoo groups get spammed so hard that they had to be abandoned.

Their excercise of caution seems warranted, IMO.

Don't forget you can also visit my group:

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Pleasureway-RV/

It is open to all. Many owners are on both
lists and everyone is welcome.

Agreed. I didn't have a problem with it, other than feeling too lazy to go find my VIN.

I don't know about the spam thing. I run a music discussion forum with over 62,000 members worldwide and have for 10 years. We have similar checks to Yahoo Groups and have had almost no problems. The Yahoo groups require entering a series of characters which prevent 99% of problems. This VIN# requirement is a bit over the top IMO.

Thanks for the invite, Mike, I'll check your group too. You can never get enough PW/Class B discussion!!

I joined the PW Owner's Group and was not bothered in the least at the vin # requirement. I check in occasionally and more frequently if I have a question regarding my PW. I would visit
the site more frequently but I have to log out of my main yahoo account to do so.
