Thanks to this forum, I replaced the orig batt w/ the Deka and it is great; thought this would be the power sufficient to start gen, and it did. But gen won't run AC, tho shore power will; AC acts like there is no connection to the gen, runs like a champ on shore pwr. My manuals are pathetic; is there a fuse or circuit breaker I should ck? thanks for your help. stringmann

If it's a small Onan 2.5 or 2.8, there's a 'master' breaker inside the black service access panel. The local start panel is in the lower left side of the service opening. The breaker is much like a light switch, located around the corner on the right side of that panel.

But if you have AC from the Onan at any other outlet, that ain't it. If it's tripped, you'll have _no_ AC power when on the Onan. But I've never heard of a separate 'generator only' breaker on just the air conditioner circuit.

On some motorhomes you have to plug the shore power cord into an outlet in order to connect the generator. This outlet is usually in the compartment that holds the shore power cord. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses: I've been on a trip (not in PW). In response, I'll try the suggestions today. This is an '04 Pleasure Way TD Dodge Sprinter van w/ onan 2.5. W/ new batt, the gen starts and runs great, but AC doesn't seem to care that gen is running. Since ac runs on shore pwr fine, it must be a fuse or a switch, but the manuals for the vehicle doesn't mention the coach, and the coach manual is shorter than a high school research paper (and less detailed). I don't believe there is a switch, so I think it is a fuse. If anyone has this vehicle pls let me know? Thanks again.

Is it just the air conditioner, or all your AC power when you're on the generator?

Can you hear the generator 'load up' or strain at all when you try to turn the air conditioner on?

How much time between running the A/C on shore power and trying it on the generator? Some have a time delay relay to keep you from re-starting the A/C too quickly (a couple of minutes).

Thanks Jim. I ck'ed the circuit brker last night, it is fine (and since the AC works on shore power, I figured that wasn't it.) I have left the gen running a couple of minutes before trying or retrying the AC, and no luck. Again, the AC runs like a champ on shore power; and gen runs like a champ itself. But when shore pwr unhooked, gen started, AC acts like a dead dog. No sound, no try, no nothin. I thought perhaps the gen isn't sending any pwr anywhere, so I went to test it by cutting off the coach batt: the gen died, so I thought the coach batteries must need to be on run the gen? Am I wrong about that? Dear Lord I wish my manuals could tell me this; I have a feeling I am missing something obvious? thanks again for your help!

Hi stringmann!

Do you have a manual transfer switch on board or an automatic transfer switch?

Transfer Switches

Jack, I am not sure. I think it is automatic, only because I don't know where the manual switch would be. After the holiday, I could write that to PW and ask them. There is a manual switch to turn coach battery on/off, and it must be on (and propane switch too) for gen to start. But I don't know where the manual transfer switch would be? thanks, and happy 4th to all!
