It was not an oncoming truck. It threw up the rock and you hit the rock at a high rate of speed!!

Ok, I admit it, I was doing 100 miles/hour, going uphill into a two sharp corners, trying to avoid a herd of moose being chased by 10 grizzly bears, and at the same time swerving through a cloud of wolverine sized mosquitos.

I just came through Toad River about 3 days ago, currently in Fairbanks. Just went back and checked my road photos of that area and bet the rock or whatever it was came off the truck. Some of the flat beds and low boys I have seen on the highway parked at places have all sorts of debris on the trailers just waiting to attack. LOL Those drivers need to be issued brooms. That section of road is easy/safe/proper to run the 90/100 Km/h (56/62 mph) speed limit so any rock or other items, thrown in the path of another vehicle may be traveling at double that speed or close to it.
Unless a person plans to make a permanent repair of some sort themselves, I would just leave the duct tape on it till a pro could make a proper fix.
Didn't see any Bentleys but did see a bright yellow Ford Model A, pulling a retro look teardrop trailer through that area. He was making about 45mph/75Kmh on the flats, looking good doing it.

I bet you're right, Joe.
Alaska has a relatively new law that has the truck drivers and companies responsible for keeping their rigs clean of gravel and rocks so this very thing doesn't happen. And there's stiff penalties for those who don't.
I've had two incidents where gravel has been left on lowboys, belly dumps, and regular dump trucks and fell off, taking out my windshield. Both times, I got the name of the owner (one commercial, one state DOT) and gave them to my insurance company along with my claim. My insurance company pursued them fully. Don't know what you'd do in Canada.
Regarding the OP and his situation, I'd be inclined to put in a claim with my truck insurance company for fixing the camper.

Last year we earned a windshield rock chip with a crack on the Alaska Highway. Haven't replaced the windshield yet because it's a reminder of that great trip.

On coming are the worst. I was in Idaho a few years ago when a a logging truck went at me about 70 mph on fresh gravel. It took out the windshield, both headlamps, and the parking/turn lamps. It was like getting hosed down with an M60.

Clattertruck, that's what the Alaska DOT belly dump did to me last year. Some new kid driving it and he didn't sweep off his trailer. He was going fast and just showered me with gravel. Took out my windshield, headlights, and it was like a shotgun on my hood, fender, and door. DOT wanted to argue with me over it so I just gave all the information to my insurance company and let them deal with it. And boy, did they. What a hassle.

This topic has been kicked around a lot on here.
On a trip to AK in '03, using as many secondary roads as we could, when we saw an on coming truck, we'd slow and pull as far off the road as possible, even if it meant driving into the weeds. The truck would barrel past at way above the speed limit with shower of gravel, and a huge dust cloud. (we were there during the dry season) Only 4 or 5 large windshield divits, which eventually turned into cracks, and a broken camper front window. (yet another reason not to have a camper front window)
If you haven't guessed by now, expect to replace your windshield upon returning from AK.
I was unaware of the new legislation RE: effluvium falling from trucks.
If you want flotsam and jetsam from trucks, try the Long Beach Freeway (710) from the harbor area up to the 5. It's the gateway from the busiest harbor on the west coast unloading all that consumer stuff from China. Just an amazing collection of crank handles, bolts, angle iron, pallets, mud flaps, tires and tire parts. At least it's so slow now that you have a lot of time to maneuver around all the junk. There have been a lot of fatals attributed to junk falling from trucks.
