I also had the truck on cruise control and was fooling around in the back of the camper.....

I always wanted to try that with the DW but just didn't have the cajones. This is one of the reasons why I respect you Canadians.

This topic has been kicked around a lot on here.
On a trip to AK in '03, using as many secondary roads as we could, when we saw an on coming truck, we'd slow and pull as far off the road as possible, even if it meant driving into the weeds. The truck would barrel past at way above the speed limit with shower of gravel, and a huge dust cloud. (we were there during the dry season) Only 4 or 5 large windshield divits, which eventually turned into cracks, and a broken camper front window. (yet another reason not to have a camper front window)
If you haven't guessed by now, expect to replace your windshield upon returning from AK.
I was unaware of the new legislation RE: effluvium falling from trucks.
If you want flotsam and jetsam from trucks, try the Long Beach Freeway (710) from the harbor area up to the 5. It's the gateway from the busiest harbor on the west coast unloading all that consumer stuff from China. Just an amazing collection of crank handles, bolts, angle iron, pallets, mud flaps, tires and tire parts. At least it's so slow now that you have a lot of time to maneuver around all the junk. There have been a lot of fatals attributed to junk falling from trucks.

regards, as always, jefe

We had a case of death by truck flotsam up here not too long ago. A pipeline service truck driver had a chuck of steel on his pickup ladder rack and not tied down. There were two motorcyclists behind him, a father and son, on a tour from out of state. The steel flew off, bounced off the road, and struck the father in the head. In spite of his helmet, he died on the spot. They were all going highway speeds.

And then there's the moose.....

You didn't happen to spot my brothers group did you? He was leading a bunch of vintage bentleys on a trip to Anchorage & back.

For an excellent vintage experience visit the small roadside museum in Ft. Nelson, YT. A fine gentleman named Marl Brown displays (and owns most of) the vintage vehicle collection there. In June of last year he celebrated the 100th year of his 1908 Buick by driving it from Ft. Nelson to White Horse, a distance of over 500 miles if I recall correctly. The museum sent a "rescue" vehicle along behind him in case he broke down. The rescue vehicle broke down and had to be towed back to Ft. Nelson, but Marl said the old Buick ran like a top the whole way! It still has the original wooden wheels on it.

Pay him a visit. It will be one of the highlights of your trip on the Alcan!

Not sure exactly where the hole is your talking about, but might be a good spot to install a new exterior light if you can get wiring to it through a cabinet or something. Just an idea

Yes, that would be a good idea if it was at a different spot.
But I'm gonna fix it myself, I bought fiberglass kit at Canadian Tire.
That seems to be the cheapest way of doing it.
The color might end up not to match the camper, but that's no big deal, I put a Canadian Flag sticker on it.
