I have a 2003 Xplorer 230 XLW that is new to me. It has a silver button to the left of the steering wheel. Someone said this is to start the engine if the engine battery is dead. Does anyone know about this.

Also, the is a switch in the center of the dash that says "engine, off, house". What is the use for this?

The owner who sold me the van do to health reasons is not able to help.

Many thanks,

I am not familiar with your unit specifically but it is common for RVs to have a switch for starting the engine on the house batteries if the engine battery dies. What it does is activate a solenoid to switch the power.Try holding the button down while turning the ignition switch to the Start position.

My guess is that the other switch you asked about controls the power to the radio.

Yeah, the silver button is probably a 'battery combiner' that lets you add the house battery for starting. It's almost a sure bet if it a spring-loaded button that you have to hold down. It and the (probably) radio power selector are not real common on newer B's, but I have the impression that the Xplorer was a top-drawer conversion in its day.

BTW, if yours was sold new in Boone, I maybe saw it on the dealer's lot on my first trip hunting a B...

Xplorer 230 XLW.......Yes,emergency start switch is the silver button......and radio powered by house batteries when camped switch.......how convenient (and important)....I do miss those features that my 4 Xplorers had.....definatley the classiest most logical Class B ever made.......I am enjoying my new ROADTREK 210,(only because Xplorer is gone) but miss the sensible features that all other converters omitted to save a few $$$...If only the builders would travel in one for a few years....they could definatley make their motorhomes more trouble free.....and user friendly....

We are the owners of a 1987 Xplorer 280 and this is a great forum for help on them. I have also called the current Xplorer company and spoke to the owner. Unfortunately, when the company went bankrupt, all the new owners received was some old fiberglas molds and the name. They are doing a B on a Sprinter and some Cs but no more of the classics.
Of course, that makes it all much more interesting, which is the hallmark of owning a B.
