What is a throttle cable ? why do you think its better than cruise control. Thanks

I will say that BradW does have a throttle cable on his jeep

I'm not subject to any gag orders, so here it is-
Throttle cable is like a choke cable, just a wire and conduit with a knob that you pull out or push in. The other end of the cable connects to the throttle linkage on the carburator. With a throttle cable, you can leave your foot off the gas pedal and set the cable knob at one position. The engine operates at that one speed.
I have one on my Bronco. It was a factory option I guess, it's mounted right in the dash by the choke and has the same knob on it. I used it once in a while when off roading when I had the old carb. After I put the new carb, I never hooked up the cable. It is good for creeping along at a slow speed over rocks. Sometimes the vehicle moving alot up and down cause your foot to not be steady on the gas pedal. The hand throttle stays steady.

Older carbureted engines had a mechanical throttle cable to the carburetor. Newer engines are electronically controlled, usually by a computer - hence, no throttle cable (at least in the historic sense). The current "gas pedal" actually works an electronic actuator that tells the computer what your foot is telling it.

Motor oil breaks down over time of being subjected to heat and contaminates. I guess if you don't care about the motor, the experiment should be interesting.

socal so why is this better than a cruise control and why would you expect to get 23 mpg from using one?

It short: It causes your engine to run at a fixed HP regardless of demand. The HP you pick ends up being the average of what's required over a longer stretch of roadway. When you go downhill, you pick up a bunch of speed. When you go uphill, you are the moron holding everyone up to save a few pennies. 
This is the most efficient any engine can run at. Accelerating quickly and/or using brakes ever means you're wasting some energy.

Oh I will change the oil if I have to but my understanding is that the double bypass will keep it free from contaminants. This could turn into a giant for and against the virtues of filtration, But I will be totally honest, I will send it out and report the results if the oils still good why change it. Right now there is like 2000 miles on the oil, it is a bright and clean as the day I put in the truck. From my previous experience 10 miles and it would be black as coal.

Since SouCal has decided to respond; I am authorized to respond to his post. One thing he is wrong on is a throttle cable DOES NOT operate at ONE SPEED. Speed will vary with terrain, it will supply the same fuel at at all times. It is typically used in Jeeps to keep you from giving more pedal that you need when in a climbing situation.
On the high way I have used it to bust 30.2mpg on a 388 mile test from Atlanta to greenville, Ms. I have also busted 21.3 fully loaded on a test that almost reached 600 miles on one tank.
it will give you an approx gain of 30% on the highway depending on how hilly the terrain is
You asked about the reason this is so. The reason is cruise is the dumbest most BS device ever invented by the king of Saudi Arabia to make us submit to them. Engine breaking down a hill and wasting the speed that could be generated and then slamming the fuel uphill is simply the stupidest F'ing thing you can do to acheive max mileage.

socal as far as the million mile Cummins............lets see its almost 7 years old I 've got 41,000 miles on it thats 5857 miles a year. I think that works out to 170 years. So my youngest grandson is 3 now I guess you will need to talk to his great grandson.
