Guys you going to hear all kinds of BS about the idea of Constant throttle, but if you try it you will see the light. i bought an old 96 cummins duallie as a second truck and ran it from La to atlanta hard like 80 mph with just my foot. it jumps in and out of overdrive. I got like 16 mpg

When I came back I installed a CT device and i got almost 26 mpg. its the idea not the implementation of the idea. its the F'ing idea. it can be implemented in many ways

jponder,

Is everything else stock on your truck. I was wondering about what gear ratio is best and other components that effect fuel mileage. I have a gasser and get almost 15MPG loaded and 11-12MPG loaded. I am always in the market for a diesel if I find what I want. I am trying to get more knowledge on what I need to amke the right purchase.

FRITZ, I must say, if I have a choice, I will not return to a gasser, for several reasons. I also prefer an older diesel, before the computers took over the fuel system. Obviously, with that info, you can see I am bias.

If you are considering a diesel for the MPG, that is OK, in my opinion. If that is the only reason, it is questionable that it would be profitable. I could give you a list of reasons why I prefer a diesel, and although MPG is of value to me, it is not the primary reason nor the deal breaker.

First weekend out.... the "accelerator pedal cable" (the one connected to my foot) broke getting off I80 in the Poconos in Pa. Loads of weekend traffic, so I coasted (downhill luckily) onto the shoulder, and removed the p30 doghouse. We were only 7 or 8 miles from Otter Lake cg. I asked DW for the dog's leash and clipped it onto the TBI. Wouldn't want to throttle/drive by hand if unless I had to.

When I was a kid, dad and 'uncle Billy', a mechanic friend of the family, used to work on cars together alot. One time they took off in the car with Billy sitting in the engine compartment operating the throttle by hand while tuning the carb and dad operating the steering wheel and brake, driving down the street with his head out the side window to see around the hood.

SoCalDesertRider, jponder has his inside the cab. On second thought, maybe it is under the hood. I wonder who operates the steering wheel and brake. Probably no one operates the brake, it would cost MPG.

Forgive me jponder, I just had to post that.

I used to have a Chevy Sprint. 1.0 liter 3cyl. I often used constant throttle and got 50mpg. Right foot flat hard on the floor for hours at a time during a long trip.

Funny story.

My dad told a similar story but the engine didn't even have a carburetor on it. I don't remember if he said they drove it or just ran it but the guy under the hood had a beer bottle with gas that he dribbled directly into the intake manifold a little at a time.

I just have a 4inch straight pipe as a mod. I am real tall geared with a 3.54 rear end and 35 inch tires. I get 4 mph out of every 100 rpm in high gear and my odometer reads 11% error.

Try driving CT with your foot and see what it does for you
