Heading south on the Cassiar in early August. How long should we plan to take to see it all in a leisury fashion. Open to suggestions for any good spots to o'night, either dry or with hookups?

I might have an answer if I had any idea what the Cassiar is. Or where it is and why I would use it.

We just returned from the Cassiar. It is a beautiful drive, and for the most part, a good road.
The northern section is pretty rough. We were in no hurry; driving slowly and stopping often. We spent 5 days, but it could be done in fewer or more depending on how you want to do it.

Well, you have to go over to Hyder (or probably Stewart) and spend a couple of nights.
Check out the Fish Creek Bear area and Salmon Glacier.
You drive along side of and above the glacier.
Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

We thoroughly enjoy the three provincial parks along the Cassiar Highway, from north to south:
1. Boya Lake
2. Kinaskan Lake
3. Meziadin Lake
Boya is absolutely beautiful, in all seasons. Not much to do there unless you have a canoe or kayaks, or enjoy backroad exploring ... but a great overnight spot. For some reason, this campground seems more peaceful than most others.
Pictures of all the above locations on my website.
From Meziadin Junction, you need at least a day to drive into Stewart and Hyder, and up to Salmon Glacier. Do not miss Salmon Glacier ... the tourist centre told us not to waste our time with a visit as the day was overcast; we went anyway, had the place to ourselves, and enjoyed the awesome views.
You can "do" the Cassiar in two days, or you can invest 5 or 6 days.

SixPence and none the richer (singing group)....sounds like you have been receiving good advice. I understand that you have to take care planning your adventures? There is a great viewing walkway in Stewert. Easily accessed and goes way out in the tidal flats. The glaciers are indeed worth the drive in. Camping at Mezziadin Lake is to be considered. Pretty location and there aren't many opportunities between there and highway #16. I don't have a lot to say about Hyder other than the glacier.
If you choose to go see a bit more..it's a 2 1/2 hour drive from the 37/16 junction to Prince Rupert. If the weather is nice, it's a good drive, in a toad. Truthfully, there isn't a lot to see, but you are so close, it makes good sense to go. Cow Bay (cruise ship docking, touristy area, Smiles Fish/Chips) is the destination. Again..only if the weather is nice. If it's socked in with rain and/or fog...*shrug*...
Your east bound run on 16 isn't filled with breath taking things to do or see. It awfully pretty but you are too early for the Fall Fairs and to late for spring round up!

We just got off the Cassiar yesterday, on the south end. Getting to be some long stretches of "no" fuel available on the road. You can buy fuel at Kitwanga, then 140 miles up the road at Stewart, then at Bell 2, then at Iskut and then Dease Lake. In the past we had fueled at the Meziadin Junction station but it is closed and the old cafe/store has burned a coupld of years back.
The road going to Salmon Glacier is washed out and not usable at this time. We were told that there was about 100 feet of roadway missing. The mining companies doing drilling up at the old Granduc Mine had vehicles on both sides of the washout so they drive up to it, hike around and take a different vehicle on to work or home. There were a few bears ripping the flesh off of still live fish but it was raining all day while we were there. This trip we decided to stay at Meziadin Provincial Park and commute to Stewart/Hyder and it was a good decision. Had a brown bear in the campground this morning. $15cad a night for a beautiful provincial park, almost as beautiful as Boya Lake, farther north on the Cassiar.
They are doing some road work on 37A going into Stewart, new chip and seal with a pilot car escort, and doing a bridge replacement.
Fish and chips were still outstanding at the "Bus" in Hyder.
A person can drive to the bear viewing area at Fish Creek but the wash out is a few miles more down the road.
