Just came through this way today from the I-80/90 Indiana Toll Road, westbound to I-294. There is still some construction along I-80 near the I-65 interchange, but at least midday Saturday it was not a problem. Only lasts about 5 miles or so. Otherwise, I-80 is open, wider than it used to be, and a good road. Rush hours will clog it up some near Chicago, but avoid them and you should be fine!

We went through the area over Memorial Day. I-80 wasn't bad but the Tri-state is still a nightmare in two areas. Maybe by our December trip it will be closer to completion.

The Tri-State isn't due for completion until fall 2010. Sorry about that. I agree, that road is absolute MISERY.

I-294. Avoid like the plague until late 2010 at least - and then only if you have an I-Pass or other transponder that works with the Illinois tollway system. (EZ Pass might.)

I figured as much. We have to follow it to the Des Plaines / Mount Prospect area to see my mother-in-law twice a year now. The GPS unit wants to route us through downtown Chicago. Been there and done that once. Won't do it again. I did research and found the EZ-Pass is accepted in Illinois so it may be worth my efforts to get one since I have tolls in WV and IL.

If it's accepted in Illinois, EZ Pass will make the tollway almost bearable. Definitely check into it.
