So I have been without a camper (of any type) for about 3 years and I sold the 03 Dmax about 2 years ago. Well now I am ready to get back in the game and I bought an 09 GMC Sierra 1500 (CC short box) about 4 months ago. Here's where I need some help...can I tow a Zinger 5th wheel 25 ft approx 6400lbs (or somethig similiar) with the truck?? According to GM's website it doesnt show towing a 5th wheel as an option. I appreciate any and all help as I have a 5th wheel on hold.

Lots of threads about towing with 1/2 ton but you can start with this one.

What is the towing capacity of your GMC? The Zingers have a GVWR of around 12,000#, even though the empty weight is around 6400#.
This alone exceeds some of the 1500's towing capacity. The payload of the 1500 is impressive, but that's another area to keep an eye on. Hitch weight is 1200+ on the Zingers. Add the weight of a hitch and occupants and you will probably be overloaded.
Sure you wouldn't be happy with a nice TT?

We now have a GMC 2500 CC 6.0 eng and tow a Jayco 237A (24 ft)5 ver which has a scale weight fully loaded of 6500 and a hitch weight of 1010 lbs. It tows very well and feels very controlable. We DID have a GMC 1500 EX C with the 5.3. It was close to maxed out especially rear axle capacity.

I'd want to know the scale rear axle and hitch weight of your proposed rig versus rated capacity.

Zinger dry pin looks like 1260. That will grow to be 1500+ IMO.
I would look for a dry pin closer to 1000 or under.
Mine is 880.

I wouldn't. We have a 2500 and it's pushed to the max. Also, short box will require a slider or you'll end up with a busted back window or worse!
