We have camped a few times on Thanksgiving. One year we smoked a turkey but had to drag along our Weber Kettle Grill.

Another time we brought along our Showtime Rotisserie and cooked our turkey on that. We had electricity.

I must admit that I didn't prepare food in advance--it was just three of us. I brought along some frozen Green Giant green bean casserole and also used stove top dressing.

We didn't have a sewer connection and I didn't want to use a lot of water to do dishes.

Have fun!

we have camped on thanksgiving for the past couple of years and what we found works best for us is the thanksgiving dinner in a box that you can buy at any grocery store around the holidays. there great you get turkey and all the fixings for a reasonable amount and all you have to do is warm them up.

We get a turkey breast, it fits in the RV oven real nice. Pie is made the daay before. The rest can be done on the stove top. I have seen other campers do a deep fried turkey, but that whole process seems dangerous to me, seen a lot of fires with the oil boiling over and catching on fire. The main thing is being together on this special day. Do it.

You can get one of those electric roasting pans and cook the turkey outdoors if you want a larger one.

The grocery stores start carrying Carrington brand frozen stuffing around the holidays. It's very good and will fit into RV oven.

We have camped and cooked a traditional TG dinner for just the two of us as well as for a good size group numerous times.

If it's just the two of you, buy a small turkey (around 10 lb)and have the butcher cut it in half while still frozen. (or a turkey breast). Cook one of the halves at camp and the other half at a later date! A small half turkey fits very nicely into an oblong dish. Just make sure whatever you cook your turkey in will fit into the RV oven. I like to use the turkey roasting bag if I cook the bird in the RV oven. The bird comes out nice and moist and no mess in the oven.

If I am cooking for a group of people, I bring my Nesco 18 qt. electric roaster. If you syphon off the drippings with a turkey baster, the bird will brown. I also like to use a little browning sauce on the bird to help things along.

One year we roasted the a whole turkey on the campground campfire pit/grill. We built an indirect fire on each side of the pit. Put ath a drip pan in the middle of both fires. We brought our lid from our charcoal BBQ/grill to cover the bird. If you don't have a lid, use some heavy duty aluminum foil and keep the bird tented (not wrapped up). Keep the indirect fire burning with charcoal until the bird is done. It's best to use a thermometer for this job.

If I am cooking for 2 or 22 I still make my mashed potatoes and stuffing at the stick house and reheat at camp. For a group of people I fix a large batch and then reheat the potatoes and stuffing in two crock pots, using crock pot liners for easy clean up.

If you are camping at a campground you will find this experience wonderful to your sense of smell. Everyone at camp will be fixing a turkey or some kind and the aroma in the campground is mouth watering!!

Have fun!!

Just remember your recipes for anything you are making while at camp. Last year, I "thought" I had a pie recipe in the rv - wrong! I had to call my SIL, and apparently wrote something down incorrectly. It was the worst pie I've ever made! Everything else was good though, and we always have a great time (other than hitting a deer on the way last year).

We have camped for the last 8 years for T'giving at the beach. We will normally cook our bird at home, wrapped in foil, plastic and then inserted into a cooler nd packed in ice. (We leave on tuersdy) On Thursday, it is taken from the still really cold cooler and warmed in the oven in our TT OR warmed on our grill (I like that best). We take the turkey drippings with us in a jar, kept in fridge, then make gravy in the TT, stuffing, green bean casserole, etc. are made in camp.

Last year, our nephew went with us and went crabbing - caught bunches. We had crab cakes, plus some steamed crab for our T'giving meal. It was wonderful.

My usual and favorite Holiday fare is always the same.

Heavenly Ham / Honey baked Ham
Hand Mashed Potatoes with a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing
Green Bean Casserole with French's Onions in the can

Thats all I want and need. Its pretty easy to do at home or camp

If the plan is so great, why doesn't it sell itself?

We have done the thanksgiving camping once and it was okay except we were in a hybrid tt and it poured on the way there so our end were wet. But we bought a turkey fryer and fried the bird and made the rest of the fixings the same morning. Made the desserts the day before. The nice thing about a fryer it doesn't take very long.
