We were hosting at Morro Bay State Park last winter. I don't remember ever seeing anyone locking up equipment in the park.
But, one night someone cruised through the park and stole several portable barbeques and a couple of bikes. The rangers told me this has happened on occasion but not often.

We lock the doors. Anything outside is available for theft if someone wants it that badly.

In all the years we've been camping we've only had 1 cheap Walmart folding chair taken.

That's quite an indictment and an unfair stereotype. I've been on both sides of this type of incident. I've been burglarized, and I work for a police department. There are a lot of dedicated individuals that really do care. Their case load and demands on their time are heavy, and they may not be able to catch every dirt bag thief, but most of the cops I know are doing a thankless job because it's the right thing to do, not for a power trip or just for the pay check.

Had our first incident this year. Some local kids were coming into the campsite and steeling coolers to get the beer. The cops actually did catch them. One of the campers had an alarm on his cooler that went off when it was opened. The only thing we ever locked up was the camper.

Life is a rollercoaster and I'm not strapped in.

I chain up my generator but little else. I don't leave anything out that I care about either. My bamboo fly rod goes inside

We, actually, had our first "almost" incident just a month ago. We were fly fishing on a lake on Grand Mesa in Colorado, loaded the one man pontoon boats on the truck and stopped at another lake on the drive out. We finished fishing and walked toward the truck, DH said "Who is that parked by the truck"? It was an old, nasty looking Suburban, it suddenly sped off pretty fast. When we got to the truck, the tie down straps on the boats were off. Had we not headed toward the truck when we did, we would have lost both boats.

Nothing I hate worse than a thief!

Been camping for over 40 years and NEVER had anything stolen. I've loaned my generator to a new neighbor and left it in their care while we left the campground, and do not lock anything while camping unless we're going to be gone for an extended period of time. I have insurance that covers losses of property due to theft but have never had to file a claim. When I go camping I'm SURE not going to fuss about protecting my STUFF and let worry ruin an otherwise good time. I've used this policy effectively in 49 states, camping in everything from a clearing in the woods to RV Parking Lots. Everyone has their own style so do what makes YOU sleep well at night.

Lock it up. $20 for a simple cable and lock, takes 10 seconds to lock it up and will stop most thiefs.

Neighbors had a bicycle & motorcycle stolen. A week later someone had clothing stolen from the laundry room.

Between my power monitor, scooter, green egg grill, chairs, etc... I have around $5000 worth of stuff sitting around outside. Three cables & locks (one key for all) take care of everything.

I don't really want to "get too started" - but, your opinion of my opinion means very little to me

deleted and bunch of stuff and decided to reply privately to you - take it or leave it

The OP's question was, "Has anyone out there ever had their things stolen from the camp site?" and I have
