As some backwoods friends of mine would say, and yes they would say this, "We gonna have a time.".
Yeah, but that’s a very bad real-world solution.
In retrospect, I’m very glad that I remained rational in the matter. Otherwise, I guess it is possible that I would still be in jail, life ruined, with the surviving punks living high on my net worth that they got from me by lawsuit. Instead, I’m out enjoying my life and the canoe is back in service (if a bit tattered). I think it is expecially incumbent on anyone who is armed or potentially armed (as I know many here are) to be very, very cautious and conservative in any potential confrontations.
Violent, armed confrontations over property (remember that this was property that was already stolen and ruined) when no loved one is at any risk, may make for good macho internet discussions, but make no sense whatsoever in the real world. I spent three years overseas in the Army long ago using weapons every day and have no desire to ever shoot anyone again unless it is an immediate, life and death situation with utterly no other alternatives.
What should happen, IMHO, is that law enforcement should DO something about that sort of criminal activity, so that angry victims will know that the scum will be punished; and are not are even slightly tempted to take things into their own hands because they know in advance that nothing will happen to the miscreants. Yes, I understand that rape and murder are much more important than a canoe theft, but if such "minor" things are ignored (as they always seem to be), some people may attempt to seek their own justice with terrible results.
Very good post!!! Restraint is your best friend in these type situations!!

ROCK THEFT A GROWING PROBLEM
I remember reading about your rock problem…
After reading about your rock theft I remembered about this story… my friend discovered two large rocks missing from the entrance to his vacant property (placed there to keep vehicles out)…
About ¼ mile down the road he sees what appears to be his rocks arranged in a landscape display… after being able to identify his rocks as his, they were returned by the property owner at a cost of $ 450 for moving and hauling… it turned out to be pretty expensive to the property owner that had paid a landscaper $3500 for the display, the landscaper denies taking them and refuses to replace them for the property owner… landscaper claims to have bought them for $50 but has no receipt and does not know who he bought them from… says he bought them while refreshing himself at the local watering whole… he has since been charged with theft, and theft of services by the police and is being sued by the property owner for damages…
The latest development is the landscapers bobcat was also bought in a bar from a unknown seller and his dump truck has a wrong VIN tag on it… he is trying to find receipts for much of his other equipment but they to have been misplaced…
it seem the biggest problem is the landscaper has rocks for a brain…

I hate stories like that, hearing of contractors that operate that way, seeing as I do landscaping. It is hard enough talking to potential new customers who are very suspicious of any contractor.

We boondock a lot. We were camping in Glamis for Thanksgiving last year, had rented a TT (before i bought mine). Never locked anything up out there, but always kept everything close in camp. About 5-6pm we took off to the sand drags and came back about 7pm to find my dirtbike stripped of its graphics, flag, and bar pad. It was standing up about 50 yards from our trailer in the sand. When I pulled up I said who's bike is that because it looked different (missing parts). Turns out I hadnt yet filled my bike with gas, so the punks couldnt get too far in the sand with it. So they just stripped what they could and left the bike standing up (surprisingly).
Needless to say I made SURE that I had a toylok installed on my new trailer and will keep everything locked whenever no one is at camp regardless of where I am.

Tent camped for 12 years and have been RVing for 20 years. Nothing ever lost all this time. Now we have "bikes" and we do lock them at night just to avoid temptation.

Hello,
Had wood stolen from my truck one night, heard noises really late but too comfortable to get out of bed, noticed in the am some firewood missing-next night same thing, went out in am and found out i had more wood than before-Late nighters must have just ran out ut replaced it the next day-I do bring my cooler in when i go away so the kids cant take my beer, not worried about losing it(well really i am)but afraid some underage persons may get it.In all my years of camping that is all that ever happened.
