get a key that fits the deadbolt lock part of my entry door lock....

I have a key for the regular door lock part but I never got a key for the deadbolt part of the lock assembly when I bought this unit from the original owner.

The lock assembly requires about 3 screws be removed on the inside in order to get into the lock to see if there is some number stamped on it that I could communicate to Coachman or a locksmith, etc....

When I tried using my special tool screwdriver that I use for all the cabinet screws inside my rig I found that it did not fit the screws on the lock..... The screws on the lock assembly are also not flat head or phillips screw heads. It may be a "Star" head but it is hard to tell from looking at it. I may have to try several screwdriver heads until I find one that fits (right pattern and size).

Same old story - Looks like you need another special tool for this job!!!! Anyone know if there is a screw head that they always use for this application?

Any suggestions for next step? Should I go to the hardware store and buy a star screwdriver but then again it may not fit. I may have to drive the motorhome to the hardware store and make a trip or two in and out exchanging/returning tools as needed until I am sure I have the right one??

Nothing is ever easy...

Funny thing.. I notice you have a Coachman. I bought a New Coachman 5th wheel a few yeras back and I was missing a key. I found it screwed to a wooden beam hidden behind the cover outside where you access the rear of the fridge. Wouldn't it be funny if your missing key was there as well...

sounds like torx screws ... and you will need the proper torx screwdriver to remove them

Drive the MH to an auto parts store.

Ask to try several different torx screwdrivers until you find the right one, then buy it.

Now you'll have it for "next time"....

They may be "Security" or "Tamper Proof" screws. You can buy a kit with numerous bits for removing different types of these screws. I got one at ACE hardware to remove screws on the back of a Microwave Oven. About $13.00 if I recall correctly.

Those star shaped holes as previously mentioned, are called Torx headed screws. You can buy a set of Torx bits that work with a universal screw driver handle, the kind that hold various sizes of screw driving bits.

LOOK CLOSELY to see if there is a tamper-proof feature within the Torx headed screw. It has a center stem in the Torx hole. I bought a set of Torx bits with that clearence hole to unscrew tamper-proof screws, just like seen here, found at a local Dollar General type of a store for real cheap. I would think they could also be bought at Sears.

As others have said, it is a Torx screw and if you have the same latch assembly as on my Coachmen 3150SS, you will need both a T15 and a T27. I would suggest that you get a whole set though as they are used in numerous locations throughout most vehicles.

Your lock assembly is, most likely, manufactured by TriMark. If you open up the latch assembly, you will find no number via which you can reference a key. The "lock" portion of the assembly is not replaceable or re-keyable either. You will have to replace the whole latch assembly.

TriMark sells direct to the consumer via their eBay site which can be found here:

TriMark Door Systems eBay Store

The most likely candidate for your door latch assembly is this one...as I have seen it in use on most Coachmen motorhomes (at least on later models).

TriMark series 060-0650, Part number 18168-02

Astrorig57,

Thanks for this information. I was hoping to just have a key made and not replace the whole assembly.. The lock assembly you included looks exactly like mine.... Did not know I was driving a Horse Trailer!!!!!

You may want to contact Coachman with the serial number of you MH, if you don’t have a serial number the vin # and see if they can give you the key #. If you have any of the paperwork that came with the MH when new you may find the key numbers. That’s how it works at Winnebago anyway.

My new to me RV did not come with any house keys. Called Trimark to have latch with keys replaced then my friend suggested I take to locksmith. They did it while I waited for $20.00, what a deal. Mark
