A week ago we were camping at the Bob Evan's Farm Festival in Southern Ohio. It rained and rained. Just about every one of over 200 RVs (including mine) had to be pulled out of the field by tractor. In this picture they started with one farm tractor, added a second tractor, and finally needed an additional four wheel drive tractor to get this rig out of the mud.

Here is a four wheel drive duallie that couldn't make it across the field even without towing anything.

I guess the answer is 3? Or would you say 4, because the truck is a tractor trailer type of rig.

Good Luck,

Just proves a point, it don't make any difference if you have a 4x4 or a 2 wd there are times you just need more traction. GBY....

Was there a 4X4 TV in there? I didn't see that. Saw some duallys, and HDT's, but none with front wheels pulling.

What is it about Ohio????? I got stuck there several years ago with my 5er being towed by an International 4700. You would think the IH was big enough, but-nope! Course, I was directed into a space that I knew I shouldn't have gone into in the first place, but I was tired and it was late. Took a large tractor to get my rig out.
My mistake was that when I realized I was sinking in, I was still moving but I stopped at the pedistle and immediately sank rim deep.
Won't do that ever again!

But with 2wd, you'd be stuck in HALF as much mud, where all the 4wd would get out by themselves. There is a limit for everything, but the limit for 4wd is much higher than 2wd. Yes, there is a point where even 4wd will get stuck. Doesn't mean it is worthless.

If that was supposed to be an anti-4wd post, I don't see the point.

I've had 4wd almost all my life. There have been many, many times when I've been out and about (even camping), when 2wd would have kept me planted firmly at home.

In fact, I probably would winter camp at all with 2wd since 4wd is a must to get your trailer into the unplowed campsites where I go.

We've had lots of rain here and my sister with her 37ft 5th wheel got stuck. When she called for a tow truck she told them to bring the biggest one they had. Told them what she had and they had to winch her out. That was a expensive lesson.

2x2 or 4x4, it doesn't matter once the tire tread is covered in mud.
Did you have fun?
