If this has been discussed to death before feel free to delete the topic.
Last trip to Alabama we stayed in motels.
bed sucked, pillows were flat and noise was really loud.
saying nothing about how long it takes to check-in behind some very drunk people.
I truly feel for the night clerks.
how many have endured the same or similar conditions?

My last trip to Colorado I stayed in a nice hotel, bed wasn't bad, had four pillows on my bed and it was quiet. I had free WiFi in my room (actually a suite), it included breakfast and a gym. I was the only one there to check in, even though it was midnight after a delayed flight and a rental car company that was closed. It was 28F out so no tent for me. And best of all, I don't have to pay for it.

About month ago, we went to Ontario, CA to attend PBR event.
Stayed in hotel, less than 4 min drive to/from arena, a mail from huge mall with lots of restaurants that we had gift card for.
In-room coffee, breakfast, hard-wired internet on in-room desk, extremely clean, upgraded room with recliner, very quiet, free USA Today paper all for $62/nite.
Did have one complaint, they don't have wide-screen lcd tv's.
Car used 16 gal x $2.90 = $46.40 for gas. Truck towing 5vr would have been 54 gal x $2.90 = %156.60. Campground fees ?.
We really enjoy sleeping in our own bed and having our "stuff" with us, but for two-day trip it just wouldn't have been worth it.

About a year ago I took a job that requires a significant amount of overnight travel. I have 40+ nights with one hotel chain, and about 20 nights at others in just under a year.
I have a company car and am requred to drive that to my work sites. So no RVing for business
Most of the time while I'm on the road in hotels I just get dinner to go after work and eat by myself in the room. It is a lonely life.
If I could RV, I would probably BBQ my own dinner most nights. I would fix my own coffee in the morning. Not to mention the comfort of sleeping in my own bed and using my own toilet and shower facilities.
In a few years, I might consider a MH and tow the company car on a dolly--but that isn't going to happen for a while.
Nothing beats staying in my own TT.

Some times it makes economical scence no to do the RV thing. We just got back from Phoenix last week, after a short 2 day stay. It would have taken us longer to drive one way than the time we spent in Arizona. But if it is a short trip, like in the 200 mile range one way, the RV goes with us.

I really don't believe it is too much cheaper travelling RV vs. motels. With RV payment, insurance, fuel, parks, etc. BUT, I would not travel if I had to use motels. Too noisy, too smelly, some not really clean, some too expensive. Give me my own bed, own shower, own booze, own food, etc., anyday.

I use the moho because it is a luxury I cannot have in rented rooms. It is a wonderful bed with bath and kitchen with my own food and drink and my satellite TV. It has my stuff. The chairs with which I am familiar and it just feels good. I have stayed in very nice hotels but they are not cozy. They are not mine. It is somebody elses stuff. Yes some of the features are much better than my 28 ft BT and room service is an option I often use. When I fly the hotel is my only option and a cross country trip for three days is not possible in the moho. When I travel with moho we sometimes pull into a hotel especially in the winter when heading south and not wanting to dewinterize quite yet or wanting room service. It just looks good at the time and many times we have said that was dumb it was better to sleep in the moho and use there shower.
If you RV because it is cheaper you may be disappointed but if you do it because it is fun and you meet great people and have more fun then see you down the road.

We have stayed in a hotel one time after getting the TT in 2003. Like waking up in my bed with my husband & one of the dogs. I sleep better & like waking up to the smell of coffee. Walk around in my bare feet on my carpet to slip on my shoes to take the dogs out for a walk. No extra fee for my dogs to stay with us. It is really our second home & it is comfortable. We will be leaving for Rockport in a week for a total of 211$ for all the nights camping. I think that would cover a room for one and a half night in a hotel. Stayng in state parks, COE & county parks we do not pay a hotel tax. I do not have to hear doors slam when a quest comes in late. Most of the time a park has a peaceful sound. Goldencrazy is correct on the people you meet in the parks greet you with a smile when out waking or setting at your campsite. Even the camp host are very friendly and helpful. Many a camping neighbor has come over to talk about the places they have been or invite us over to set by the fire. We really do not look at the cost of traveling; it would take all the fun out of it. But some of our friends think it would be to expensive.

It's really fairly simple. The fewer nights you stay in your rv, the more expensive per night it is. Vice versa, the more nights you stay in your rv, the cheaper it gets. For us, when we are in our traveling mode, 5 months per year at least, its a lot cheaper. Plus we have the added benefit of preparing our own meals which are far better than the "greasy", "salty", and expensive Sysco frozen meals that restaurants now serve.
