no dog or cat food made in Canada(if the label says made in USA-its ok) No beef, or root veggies, no potatoes, onions, fresh garlic, we were searched last yr. They took all my eggs, pepperoni on the frozen pizza, garlic, summer sausage, 2 hot dogs(they were beef) including our lunch which was ham, cheese and salami sandwiches-they didn't like the salami!. This yr. not bringing any food, cat gets canned tuna and canned chicken until we get to the superwalmart in Illinois. Its not worth the hassel or the fine, or watching it being thrown away.

Everything is allowed except lamb and citrus. We crossed on Thursday & I asked the Ag guy. That's what he told me.

We came back from our Banff vacation 3 weeks ago. The US Border agent only asked about lamb AND goat as well as fruit.
Don't have a pet so that question did not come up.

Perhaps if you told us what border crossing you will be using, it will help. We had six border crossings this summer, from Ontario and Quebec, going into New York, also from Ontario into Michigan. I checked with the borders before leaving home and only restrictions are lamb, mutton, goat and citrus. I try to take pet food made in USA - five years ago I had pet food taken because the package did not show where it was mfg.

Crossing from Canada into some states, e.g. California may have different
restrictions.

The pet food was only an issue during the BSE scare when the US banned all beef products including pet food. They have finally seen the light and realize that Canadian testing procedures for BSE is a lot more riggerous than in the US. In the US the ranchers mainly use the two S rule(Shoot and Shut-up)

We crossed at Sarnia last Monday.
All she asked about was fruits, root veg, liquor, tobacco and firewood. No mention of meat.
She was cute and in a good mood

Just like the screenings at the airport - nothing is consistent. Each station has its own interpretation of the "rules".

I agree with Dona and Elvin: just canned food and stock up in the states!
