Only downside this way is the hose could be over pressurized and burst, but I doubt it, and it's outside so it's not going to do any damage like if inside plumbing would.

When unhooking, prior to travel, I coil my water hose and connect the two ends befor putting it into the storage compartment. Nothing can get in the hose between uses. Simple precaution - also prevents drip/leakage into the storage area.
My regulator goes on the cg spigot.

Either way works, I prefer to put regulator at the spicot because then my hose and filter are also protected from high pressure.

I use a house-type regulator, as I've had nothing but grief from the Wally/CW types. I don't want it at the hookup, and usually there is nothing there to hang if from, anyway. It needs to be in the proper orientation to work. I use CG valve, hose, regulator, short hose to water inlet. The regulator hangs, on a bracket, from a slide beam where it is out of sight. They ain't cheap.
Of course, first I check the pressure with a gauge. If it isn't over 60 lbs, I don't use the regulator. One place we stay at regularly is over 120 psi; ran into one ten days ago that was over a hundred.
I also run a clear glass of water, after running the water for a bit. If I see "stuf" in it, I put the filter in line. I use it very rarely.
Is this a good time to mention checking the electricity for being properly wired before plugging in? Stick on of those little outlet analyzers into the 20 amp outlet. It will let you know if the hot and neutral are reversed, or the ground is hot.

I've seen hose look like a Boa that just ate a goat, AND my watts regulator is heavy and think it is too heavy to hang from the water inlet at the TT. So I put mine at the faucet and Hope the heck nobody steals it. My house filter is put into a orange safety cone and placed near the water inlet of the TT.

I think if a campground told me they had high pressure, I'd use 2 regulators back to back at the post, then my hose, then the filter.

We use the following set up. Spigot - Regulator - Main Hose - Filter - Short Hose (just long enough to reach from ground level to RV inlet)- RV. 10 yrs of travel and no problems this way. All components use quick release connectors.

We have a Watts type regulator, I leave it in the wet bay, the bay is locked with the hose going to the spigot. Yes, the hose is pressurized but I've never had one blow out on me yet in almost 53 years of RV'ing.
Our whole house filter is built in and is just after the inlet to the RV.

There are 3 hookups that are proper.. Yours is close.. which one you use depends on several things
Park Spigot-Regulator-LONG HOSE---------Filter-Short hose-rig
The moral here is to keep the amount of hose between the filter and the rig as short as you can, and also keep it out of the sun (I use a 3-hose and park the filter in the compartment where the inlet is)
2 For parks with good pressure regulation
Park----long hose-------- Filter---Short hose---Regulator rig
(NOTE: the regulator can go on either end of the short hose)
and if you have two regulators
Park-Regulator 1 (60psi)-----Long hose---filter--Short hose and 45-50PSI regulator
This gives better water flow through the filter.

mowermech wrote: I keep it simple, I don't use a regulator or a filter. I did once, long ago, but I couldn't see where it did any good. In fact, I had TWO filters, in series, one for particulates and one for taste/odor. When I checked them after three months of full timing, I found NOTHING in them, so I quit using the fool things.
The pressure regulator may have some value, but I never encountered damaging water pressures, so I quit using it, as well.
It is true, it IS all personal preference.
I prefer to do without them.
Unlike the above findings I have found particulates in mine. As stated "All Personal Preference". Mine runs 1'st Regulator, 2'nd two filters.

I run the regulator at the spigot then connect the hose. I suggest to anyone to use a regulator, I used to think I didn't need one, until one night mopping water for an hour, and using my limited plumbing skills. I'd much rather spend as little as $8.97 at WalMart than blow another water line off.
