I have an antique psd (99vintage). I ran the factory filter 100K and then changed it for grins. I now have 40 K on the second filter and she is ticking right along.

Sigh, I wish I had a neighbor that changed his fuel filter in his 7.3 psd every time the coyoties howl. I would get way more than I need out of his trash can. yep I would dumpster dive on those good filters.

I was thinking that it is nice once in a while when someone ponies up and states that they had the same problem and what caused it.

I am shocked you would not change the fuel filter before 40000 miles. I have changed ours 6 times in 41 K miles but maybe overkill.

Every 12k miles or once a year is a good rule of thumb! alot of people don`t realize that diesel is a dirty fuel.

Yesterday someone said "I bet if you put it to the wood with no load on level ground it would hesitate at the higher rpms." I tried to accelerate without a load on the way to get my filters changed and it would no go to redline in any gear so I had lost acceleration on level ground without a load behind me.

After I had the fuel filter and the air filter replaced, it felt like a different truck. The acceleration to redline was there in the lower gears. I will not get a chance to test it with a load for a couple of weeks but I can tell the power range is back full force. Thanks to all who responded to my post.

If the Duramax is still using the same fuel filter as my old 02 was, they're a dinky little thing no bigger than an oil filter, shouldn't expect too much from them with diesel being as dirty as it is. Contrast that with the filter on my present truck being near four times the size but probably passing the same amount of fuel with changing it every 15,000 and I can definitely see why you're being advised to change it more often.

Same filter in all the Duramax's. Some place along the line they lowered the Micron to something like 2. Not sure but it filters even more than the originals.

Glad to hear you got it worked out. New fuel filters cure alot on these trucks.

My last set of tires were wearing strangely so I changed the fuel filter and...just kidding...lol

My 2006 D/A fuel filter is about 4 times the size of my oil filter.

Are you sure? Mine and others I have helped with are similar in size. Transmission filter is about 4 times smaller.
