I was sort of bummed that we had we missed the 07 cut off. Our 08 is a real treat now looking at what 2010 have to deal with. And at a huge price increase. I had a few issues with my Cat C7 but after Cat fixed it up we are golden now.

zmotorsports hit the mail on the head with his insightful comments on this topic.

The attached Press Release dated 07/17/2007 from the PACCAR Group (the old Pacific Car and Foundry Corporation) which builds both KW and Peterbilt trucks with emission compliant diesel engines for sale in the US should shed some additional light on the decision that Cat had to make a few years ago to dis-engage from the on-highway diesel engine business in the US.

PACCAR Begins Construction of Mississippi Engine Plant
17/07/2007 Bellevue, Washington
PACCAR held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new engine plant near Columbus, Mississippi today. The ceremony, led by PACCAR Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark Pigott and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, was attended by state and local officials, business and educational leaders.

With PACCAR now vertically integrated with the production of their own diesel engines for use in KW and Peterbilt products, the sales opportunity for any diesel engine builder to provide engines to PACCAR has dropped off to "zip". Further, as mentioned by many others, the engineering challenge of producing an emission compliant on-highway diesel engine for installation in a wide variety of truck brands/models/horsepower ranges/applications has become almost impossible. Since the successful operation and maintenance of either the EGR or urea system will be dependent to a large degree on how well these systems have been engineered into the truck chassis, vertical integration of the major powertrain components by truck/chassis manufacturers has become almost a necessity in order for them to meet the 2010 EPA standards for on-highway diesel vehicles.

Unfortunately, much of this logic also applies to 2010 model year and beyond diesel-powered motorhomes.
