The first indication of mild carbon monoxide poisoning is a headache!!! So, your first priorities MUST be to a) ensure that you don't have anything that could be producing CO, b) check that you have adequate ventilation and c) know that your CO detector is functioning properly. You need to rule out the possibility of CO before you spend another night in the camper!

The second thing to check for is a propane leak. Even in concentrations that are lower than where your propane leak detector will go off it can still cause headaches. Fortunately, propane is not specifically toxic but it can displace oxygen (it's heavier than air) and of course there's the risk of explosion too. Look for an unlit pilot light and check all the propane fittings with soapy water. You might also try removing the propane tank(s) altogether and see if the headaches reoccur.

I certainly agree that the headaches could be caused by mold or another chemical outgassing from the camper, but you need to be sure that they are not caused by CO or propane first.

Cheers
-Mark

Check with the local fire department to see if they have a co detector to test with. Close it up as if you were sleeping , leave a window unlocked to test through. You might have to leave it setting for a few hours after closing up to allow any co build up. I agree with the others it could very well be co2 build up if it is not ventilated well. Would be same as being locked in closet , eventually you would breath out the oxygen below 21% and co2 would build up, causes terrible headache, achy muscles .Any 4 gas test meter would show this also. I would still test for fuel leakage and co build up.

Do you have the gas supply to the pilot light in the oven turned off. It is easy to for get to turn it fullly off and gas will still escape but no flame. At least my oven works that way.

I would suggest your wife leaves the window on her side of the bed cracked a bit for some fresh air exchange. Crack the one on your side and you will get flow thru, wind helps that process so park if you can, park in a direction that exposes the window to the prevailing wind direction.

Plenty of great ideas. Is it possible that she is
under the impression that you are looking for
morning relations?

So, TNX to everyone for the suggestion. Here is what I am doing:

(1) taking in the camper for a propane leak safety check

(2) installed a CO detector

I am suspecting a low-level propane leak that is not setting off the detector, but causing my wife to have headaches.

Will go out again in a couple of weeks to see what happens.

Oh no! It may be too late. The gas has affected his memory, making him repeat himself.

But seriously, I hope you get this figured out.
