I have an iphone and I love it. I have this FM transmitter kit but it does not work well for me. Lots of distortion and the free channels change when traveling. Also kind of flimsy.
I know there are others available like the Belkin and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations.
I then got to thinking about maybe asking Santa for a new car audio system that would include a dock for the iphone. I checked Best Buy (because they are near by and could do the install) and every stereo I checked would not fit my 2000 Dodge van.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Go to Crutchfield.com and use their design function to determine which radios will fit your vehicle.

I saw an add in my local free (The Reader)paper claiming that they would add a stereo mini plug male plug to any stock car radio allowing you to plug it in directly to your iphone.
I'm not sure of the price.
Years ago after My cassette deck wore out. I got a 22$ transmitter, and disgusted by the poor volume and sound quality, I went out and bought a new Sony stereo with a jack in the faceplate and a remote for 120$. Xcellent sound with some Kenwood 6x9's in the front doors. The stock speakers sounded like they had a 5 inch thick piece of foam in front of them in comparison.
I put this in my Dodge van. They sell faceplates for every vehicle imaginable to accommodate aftermarket stereos.

As mentioned some car radios now come with an audio jack on the front.
Many more have an aux input in the rear and you could run a line out to somewhere convenient.
I have a Pioneer radio that uses a cd-changer adaptor to connect. My iPod lives in the glove box and the radio buttons control the iPod. (The changer connection is a common approach to control)
But the slick way to do it would be to get a Bluetooth radio and let it pair up automatically. Works for the newer iPhones. Here's an (expensive) example.
Crutchfield should be able to tell you your choices. I got my Pioneer Premier receiver and Polk speakers from them.

I'd say get an iPod happy front end with a USB input like a Pioneer.
They are about $150 now and you can get them with a remote that fastens to the steering wheel so you can go to the next song, pause, change volume, etc. The display also displays the song info eg song name, album, artist, etc. Pretty cool. Save your factory radio and put it back in when you trade. Our FIT has one and it is really nice.

(The changer connection is a common approach to control) I did the same after trying a bunch of FM modulators. They just didn't cut it quality wise & I got tired of changing frequencies to find clear channels as I traveled. A bit of a pain to get to the back of the radio, but well worth the effort. Using the Public Radio App, I can now listen to my local NPR station across the country!

I have a 2003 Dodge and I was able to buy an adapter that plugs in to the CD-Changer control to give me a direct connection to my iPod and Sirius dock. Much better than the FM modulators!
