Does hitch weight effect how a fiver tows the same as a TT? One I am looking at has a dry hitch weight of only 964 and trailer weighs 7270. Thanks

That is dry weight. No Propane, no batterise, no supplies. Once loaded, you will be much heavier.

Until you weigh it in I would expect that the pin weight is going to be much more. Alot of times those pin weights are literally with nothing inside, like cabinets, bed, etc.

Ballpark work be 15-20%. Once loaded ours is about 18%.

The hitch weight of a fiver will effect how it tows. You will want around 20% hitch weight with the fiver. You could get a bounce/bucking feeling if hitch is too light.
After i weighed mine fully loaded, I was at 18%. now i just load more things in the front of the fiver to balance the weight, putting more weight on hitch.
load up and go to the scales

And you will be at 20% + once you get all your STUFF on board. Ours is 27% on the pin

So to optimize the towing experience, a fiver needs to be heavier on the hitch (closer to 20%)? Which would mean this trailer’s dry weight distribution would just require more loading in front of the trailer axels?

My previous Nash 23-5A had a pin weight of 1015 and a total weight of 7265 (14% pin weight). My current Arctic Fox has an 18% pin weight. Both measurements are actual weights fully loaded. The Nash with the 14% worked perfectly. The Fox with 18% isn't bad but I once in a rare while get some bucking with it.

There is really NO REASON you should be in the LEAST bit concerned with what a trailer weighs empty since NOBODY tows around an empty trailer. I'd recommend you concern yourself with the ACTUAL pin weight not the empty pin weight.

My previous 5r had a listed pin weight of 940 but when I put water in it and took it to the scales it was actually 1160.

I've pulled GN equipment/implement trailers for many years loaded with wheeled equipment. With wheeled equipment I could load as much weight on the trucks rear axles as needed. I've ran many loads with a 10 percent (approx) of gross on my trucks. Absolutely no problems with handling as a bumper pull/pintal can give. The ten percent is still sitting over the rear axles vs several feet behind the axle for a bumper pull.

Now its according to the combo but some folks rigs may have a chucking issue with a 10 percent pin weight. Just as some have the same issue with 25 percent pin weight.

As others say your going to find your pin weight percentage will go up when the trailer is loaded and road ready.

I would bet the 7200 lb 5er tracks great.
