Just got back from trip from north carolina to southwest part of country. have had in past class c--class a--and fifth wheeler. am 66 yearts old, been camping last 30 years, bought northstar 850sc popup, to go on 2500 2007 chev shortbed crew cab. only modification i did to truck was air bags. we ended up putting 8350 miles on trip and believe me it was the most enjoyable trip we have ever had. the slide in was easy to drive, with the popup, no weaving when passing trucks, drove most of trip off interstate, but when on interstates drove 5 over posted speed limit and really couldn't tell slide in was on truck except when starting off. able to go anywere normally would go if no camper on truck. difference in gas mieage 3 miles to gallon less than normal. camped in camp grounds 15 days mainly due to freezing weather predictions for those nights. camped mostly in wilderness for other 18 days. had one flat tire and for some reason truck battery went dead, but with good sam emergency service was jumped within one hour. charged battery up took to shop couldn't find anything wrong, no more problem rest of trip. only way to go.

When it comes to travel, a TC certainly has it's advantages. The only drawback I've found is when you have to sit inside for an extended time due to inclimate weather.

Sounds like a wonderful trip. We too love to try and camp a good share of the time out on Forest Service or BLM land.
I'd love to see pictures of the trip if you're into sharing them.

Philcapt, Truck campers are great for those kind of trips. Usually take ours to my ship's reunion which I organize every year. This year was at the Great Lakes Naval Base, left there up to Saute Saint Marie across Canada 17 to Ottawa and 60 miles south to home. Bought the truck camper two years ago for a trip to Alaska. We did 13,000 miles in 12 weeks. Fantastic trip. Ron Day

I've been traveling 2 years with 5er. Decided I don't need to haul all this around for sightseeing so 5er will find a year 'round spot in Arizona. Bought a TC, took a 5500 mile trip and loved it. As I head to Arizona with the 5er, all I can think is, 'If I had the TC, I could stop in that little town'.
