One of our tires went bald on one of its edges, all around the tire though. Problem was a bent axle. Replaced the axles with better ones and no further problem.

The flat spot on my 5er was caused by a bent spindle, had the whole axle replace, cost around $350.

Your problem sounds like it is either, alignment, out of balance, or something in the suspension damaged. This is what I look for on a vehicle that has this problem. I have been working on them for over 50 years.

Even the most expensive tire can not survive with these problems.

Dealer said a brake likely locked up on me but since he found some cupping on another tire said there may be a bearing issue on the curb-side front and the axle may have shifted a bit. 4 new Goodyears to replace the chinese rubber on order. We'll see how it all turns out.

Dealer said most likely cause of the damage to the tire was the RF brake may have locked up. When disassembled for inspection there was no axle alignment issue or damage to the axle or damage to the suspension. The brakes were estimated to have ~50% life left with no cracking or unusual wear. The brand of the tires was Freestar. Mileage on them was somewhere in the 25,000+- range. 4 new Goodyear Marathons have been mounted and balanced. Don't recall seeing any balance weights before with the old tires. We had 7 seasons on the last set of RV tires on our last rig..... Goodyear Marathons BTW. Done for the year with the exception of re-torquing the lugs tomorrow. $834.00 with labor inc. Money well spent, I do believe.

Joe: You're correct, money well spent, peace of mind is priceless. One other thing though; you mentioned never hearing or noticing a tire locked up, that is not unusual at all with only single wheel lock-ups. Very common to simply look in the mirror and see that tell-tail cloud and black mark behind you and you never heard or felt anything at all.

Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!

Was it flat spotting or cupping? A flat spot goes all the way across, cupping is just in the center of the tread. Cupping is common in inferior tires, and with balance issues.
