Ft. Wilderness Golf Cart accident

Girl Injured At Disney Resort In Cart Crash
Posted: 2:49 pm EST November 2, 2009

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- A 4-year-old girl was injured at Walt Disney World's Fort Wilderness resort when a golf cart she was riding in overturned.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office reports that the girl was riding with her father, 37-year-old Charles Wickt, in their personal golf cart Saturday night when the small vehicle overturned, partially pinning the girl underneath. Wickt told authorities he had swerved to avoid another cart that was driving toward them without lights.

The girl reportedly suffered injuries to her neck, head and face. She was transported by helicopter to an Orlando hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.

I've never seen a golf cart with seatbelts, so I guess this could easily happen. Hope she will be ok.

I was there last week. Some guy had a yellow "golf cart" that sounded like it had a two stroke engine. Saw him several times over a couple of days going 40 mph or better.

The last time we were at Fort Wilderness we saw many, many people driving carelessly in the golf carts. Driving fast at night, speeding, riding in and through ditches, etc.

We were disappointed when we couldn't get a cart (they were all taken), but when we saw the way those people were driving them, we were glad we didn't get one.

We're going to FW for thanksgiving. We haven't been there before. Is a golf cart needed? We won't have children but we do have the 4 of us older folks. We can walk but would we be missing out if we don't have a rental cart? Also, can you reserve one ahead of time?

I go there 3-4 times a year, have never rented a cart. Can't think of anything you will be missing out on. You mentioned walking. Or take a buss, they are all over the place--free.

Leave the golf cart at the rental shop, save some money, and get some exercise. There are enough buses running that if you need to get to the other end of FW you can take one of them.

When I go to the Fort I rent a golf cart. I enjoy going to the different loops and checking out different campers and talking to different folks and you can go to the beach and watch the fireworks every night. It is so much easier to get around and enjoy the Fort.

Same goes for being around a campfire, around the park pool/beach, hiking trails and even driving to the campground for that matter!

Rolled the golf cart ?
I have operated golf carts many times, especially during some of those wild golf outtings where they serve beer by the gallon. The only time I have ever seen a golf cart even come close to being rolled over was when there was excessive speed for the conditions.

I hope this little girl will be okay and I'm sure this will stay with her father for a long time.

Sounds like FW needs to put some govenors on their carts and also enforce traffic rules in that park.
