we are having one installed the 12volt one but haven't decided if we should get the wind sensor with it. have heard some problems with the weatherpro ones but does anyone have a carefree eclipse one installed and if so are they dependable for the money?

We got ours without the wind sensor, just for the reason you cited, problems. We thoroughly enjoy the Eclipse awning and don't miss the wind sensor at all.

Got the Eclipse 2 years ago after my A&E blew away. Looked into the Weather Pro, but found nothing but troubles with it, plus the A&E that blew away was nothing but junk. This wasn't true 20 years ago. Got the wind sensor which is nothing but an accelerometer in the end of the arm. Works with motion at the end of the arm, rather than using an anemometer on the roof. It works great .. but will retract if the coach jiggles just right.. especially if you use air leveling. Eliminates lots of problems with the whirligig on the roof. Love it, but did have the gear box fail at the motor. Got it replaced under warranty with no problem. Great response from Carefree. We are very comfortable leaving the awning out while away, knowing it will not be destroyed by the wind.

We had ours installed with the wind sensor about 2 1/2 years ago. Like rmharder said, its an accelerometer in the end of the arm. We have a switch inside the RV that lets us adjust the wind sensitivity of the awning. We've left it on the middle setting and have never had any trouble with it. You can test it by jiggling the arm of the awning with the sensor - 3 good shakes and it comes in every time. We've watched it automatically retract in the wind many times, usually just before we get up to do it manually.
Its an excellent system, in our opinion.

I chose to keep it simple. I have power going from the battery to the rocker switch on the bottom of the front arm. That is it!

I have the awning and like it, but don't have the wind sensor. At a rally shortly after getting the coach, Carefree had a service rep running around. I asked him if he could install a wind sensor for me and he said that he could, but he didn't recommend it because of the problems he had with them. Since that time, I've heard from several people that have one and like it.

checked it out , it goes out flat-straight out, much prefer the Dometic that slants down, more like a manual awning.
Do it right the 1st time.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. We have the Eclipse and it is adjustable. You can slant it down if you like as well as dropping one end for rain runoff and it will still retract and extend.
We don't have the wind sensor. We retract it at night and if we are leaving. I think it's a good product.
