Hi, I just bought a 2009 Toyota Highlander with tow pkg. It has a 5000 lb tow capacity rating and 500 lb tongue weight rating. Has anybody towed up near these limits (in 4000-5000 lb trailer range) using a late model Highlander? If so, how did it perform?
Thanks!

Not in a Highlander, but towing near the limits isn't a lot of fun when it gets windy (or when you get into hills). That 500-lb tongue weight limit will keep you in popups or very small trailers - which IMO the Highlander is best suited for.

As long as you have the v6 you will tow that with no issues where ever you want to go.We towed a 22 ft vangard ultralite all over the mountains of B.C.Scaled wt of 41-4200 lbs, towed with a 2002 highlander v6.

Power is not the issue. The problem is the short wheelbase and high center of gravity.
I'd not try to tow more than about 3500# with it.
