I asked the sales guy at my dealer what the slots in the cherry panel were for he wasn't sure if it's for knives or a vents for the oven.

DW wants to put cutlery back there. Do you?

Can you post a picture showing the location better?

If the slots ar located behind the stove, I would suggest they are likely to provide ventillation for the oven and should not be blocked.

Tvov, they are directly behind the stove. The black metal you see is the burner cover. I'll post another pic if you need one, I took that fuzzy picture with my phone.

Took awhile to convince DW that the slots were not for knives. It's ventilation for items that create heat in cabinet below. Our hot water heater and converter are in the cabinet below slots.

In our Roo, we were told for knives and did keep knives there. In front of that there is also vents for the stove. Even with the knives in there, there ws still room to vent (if that is what it is for).

Who knows, like I said dealer said it was for knives

I assumed those slots are for knives. I keep my knives in those slots. No problems to date.

Knives in mine for about 10 years now. I believe the oven is vented on its own and those little slots make of wood would not be a prudent way to vent anything.

We don't have this piece of wood, but I recall catalog description was a knife holder. You can see the vents just in front of it.
