Planning another trip and would like to know about campgrounds within park especially on northern side. Camped one night at Fishing Bridge before moving to Bay Bridge. The park is long overdue for some re-engineering of sites to accomodate RVs of today but we all know that ain't gonna' happen. Really prefer park over commercial CG but need info to make wise decision. Appreciate all responses.

If you want hookups, i'm afraid, Fishing Bridge is it for inside the park.

In the north there is the Mammoth campground, dry camping. Only one open all year.

As stated, Fishing Bridge is the only one with hookups, all other campgrounds in the park are dry. So if you want full service sites, you will have to go outside of the park. I agree, there should be more full service sites, in the park, even if there are only a dozen or two in each campground. As driving the loop is like 100 miles.

Kind of hard to give advice since you didn't say what you were wanting to know about campgrounds. MOST of them will accommodate RVs of any size though there are far FEWER spots for large units. Probably the most centrally located (if there is such a thing) is Madison campground. Some of the smaller campgrounds like Tower or Canyon will have far fewer if any large sites and are kind of isolated from the rest of the park. Mammoth is located at the extreme north end of the park and is a LONG ways from most of the attractions. As others have already said, Fishing Bridge Parking lot is the ONLY hook ups available in the park but there are LOTS of options 15 miles WEST of Madison campground in West Yellowstone Montana. Probably the BEST option for outside the park.

We were at Yellowstone early Aug this year, we stayed at Mammoth campground. With our size, we do not worry about site size much. However, Mammoth campground has many sites which would accommodate RVs the size of yours and even more humongous ones as well. I believe yours is about 28'. Norris, Canyon & Madison, I believe would have some sites for you as well.

I was at Norris in Sept. and there were few large or flat sites for big rigs. I got there at 11:30 and there were only four sites available.

While Canyon CG is more centrally located than Fishing Bridge or Bridge Bay CG, we did not see many sites there that will fit larger RVs. The photo below shows us parked in Site #365 in the last loop at Bridge Bay CG, when we were there for 2-weeks. There are quite a few sites towards the rear of the CG that will fit larger RVs. My recollection is that the loops nearer the entrance have a bigger percentage of small sites more suited for tenters.

Don't worry, be happy you going to Yellowstone. We were there in mid August and stayed at Fishing Bridge. Like its been said, overdo for some work. But really, what ever type unit you have, the park won't affect how you live in it. We only spent nites and early mornings at site, there's a big area to see.
