If this was the most time I figured I would ever have available, I would do Alaska. If I thought I might have more time later on, I would do Maine now and Alaska then. Both very neat places to visit. I wasn't much help was I?????????

You can't go wrong either way, but if I had to make your choice, I'd do Alaska. Been to both, love both, but IMHO Alaska is more different than any of lower 48. Different is fun!!!

Been to both. Spent the entire month of August in AK & it still wasn't enough because of its size. The best of Maine is on the coast. Considering your travel time you probably would get more out of the Maine trip. Tough choice for you but you can't go wrong in either case. Good luck & have a safe trip.

I will agree with all of the above.....Loved both. Maine is spectacular - been there twice, once for a week and the 2nd time for 2 weeks. Neither was enough time. We did Old Orchard Beach, Bar Harbor (Acadia), Portland up into the Baxter State Park.

We did a weeklong cruise, then a 9 day land tour (Princess) in Alaska. It was fabulous and I would recommend it to anyone.

I don't know exactly where you are in Idaho,(on edit, I do see that you are in Jerome, so it still is about a 4 hour difference per mapquest) but I am going to assume that mileage wise, Maine might be a few hours quicker than Alaska, but if you going to be travelling 3000 miles, what's a few hours?

I would probably choose Alaska. There is so much to see, so many things to do and if you enjoy the "great outdoors", there is NOWHERE that can beat Alaska for a month or 2.

I think Harry's post was spot on.

We've been to Alaska once - 3.5 months round trip. We've been to Maine many times; we love Maine and the Canadian maritimes.

If envisioned only one trip with your time allowance, I would go to Alaska. If I thought that I would soon be able to take an even longer trip, I would go to Maine and save the longer trip for Alaska.

I don't know about just Maine. If you throw in NB, NS and New Foundland---different story.

I've been to all of them and would go to Alaska first.

States I have spent the night in my current rig, bought three years ago.
Have RV'ed through 49 states and been in all 50, just short of my half-century.
