I was on my coach roof again yesterday and was reminded of the gradual deterioration of the various "sealants" around the various protrusions including antennas, skylights, etc. Some are "sealed" with a very thick, black product that has cracked badly. Is there an easy way to reinforce all these factory done sealing jobs, or is it a case of every few years taking all the sealants off everything and resealing ? If so, what is the preferred product ? Can you seal over the cracks in this factory sealant with something soft enough but lasting that will fill all the small cracks ? Coach is a 2004 Dutch Star.

The sealant will deteriorate, and the best way to repair is to do it right...take a putty knife, and remove old cracked sealant. Replace with Dicor sealant...available at Camping World, or most RV dealerships. Make sure to only use Dicor or an equivalant product that is made to adhere on a rubber roof. Never use silicon. A little elbow grease and time is the best fix. When you're done...don't forget to clean and apply UV protectant to the rubber roof. Then you're good to go!

It's called flowing caulk, that goes right into the cracked caulk and runs down to fill any voids before it sets up. The vibrations from the roads cause the caulks to crack, and the sun makes them ooze. It's a every 6 month job to be done prior to cleaning the roof when it is dry. Then let it set up before washing. Some flanges have to be repaired by pushing in the old caulk or replacing it, but most just need the cracks filled.

I have used Eternabond and it lasts and lasts.
It is a tape available in different widths and lengths and white or grey.
Very sticky and stays flexible.
Search the posts for Eternabond.
