Wet carpet on right side of cab of Dodge---possible heater leak, kind of a pain to fix your self but do able. Trans, if original might be problem, if rebuilt might be OK, See if the fuel pump looks to be Rather newish, Injector pump also. If you buy this one get a fuel pressure gage to check the fuel pressure, or have a shop check this out for you. Just a few of the problem this model has.

I would pass on both of these trucks. $$$$ for high miles. Not bargains.

Yeah, I think I'd rather find a high mileage 12 valve than a 24 valve. had a 95 extended cab 2wd a few years back. should not have sold that one.

It is not always a heater core leak. The 2nd gen Dodge's are known to get a water leak around the 3rd brake light(on the cab) when the grommet/gasket gets old and hard. Any water that gets in around the light runs down the double wall of the cab, to the carpet, usually at the door sills.

The 24V isn't a bad engine...I've seen half a dozen of them over 500K.

Is the Ford a longbed?

Let us say you do buy the dodge, and the engine or trans goes. How much to fix? 10.000-12.000? What would a new one cost? 45.000? If I liked the dodge's looks and it was in good shape otherwise and I could AFFORD it, thats the one I would take.

Yes, the Ford is a Longbed, extended cab 4x4 F250. Automatic, XLT. The solid bench seat in the front looks like it might make it a challange for adults to get in and out of the back. It does have quite a bit of rust around the rear wheel wells. about two to three inches wide area around the opening that i could push my hand thru if I tried.

F-250 SuperCab/longbed 4x4 diesel? OK, I'm drooling now...

That sounds like my friend's truck: his is a 97 F-250 4x4 SuperCab/longbed with the PSD/auto (though I think his hi-option truck is a Lariat). The rear seat isn't for adults unless it's a full crewcab!

That bed rust is common. I see three things here: one, negotiation point! A rusty bed means a lower price. Two, it's an F-series! They made about 15,000,000 of them between 1980 and 1998. Probably 60% were longbeds. Ergo, there are literally millions of them sitting in junkyards...you can probably even get one the same color! Three...if you or someone you know is a good bodyman, it's not a terribly difficult repair.

Alternately, there are plenty of flatbeds or utility bodies that bolt right on, if you want a work truck.

Trucks tht old on a repo lot - if they could not mke payments I wonder if they spent the money on service and that got them short of cash forthe payments?

I don't know my old psd's but that one may nto be a power house.

If you get the ford started i will know since I will be able to hear the noise from where I am at.

good uck and let us know how your look see turned out.

Repo lot? Imaging having a truck that old and not able to make payments on it??

My thoughts exactly.

Sorry but more older vehicles are reposed then newer, we have a very large repo auction lot here in town and well over 70% of the cars and trucks are over 4 years old.

My neighbor’s kid bought a 1999 Ram 2500 CTD QC LW from a private owner and paid 13K for it with over 180K on the clock this summer. If he were to lose his job and could not make the payments, the CU would have a truck on their lot that they would lose money on. More than likely the owners bought these trucks recently and have lost their source of income.

The people at the lower end of the pay scales are effected harder by lose of hours base pay or jobs then someone in the high pay scales. Maybe this would be due to them not being able to save as the rest of us can.
