The crimped fittings on the male end is where mine ususally leaks. Where mine fastens to the camper is already at an angle. I just assume it is the Wal-Mart hoses I buy. (No flaming of Wal-Mart intended.)

It is just cheap material… as you say the male end starts to leak no matter what washer you use… if you look at the cheap imitation Chinese brass ends you will see where it has developed a pit on the edge so no washer will seal it… the plastic ends work pretty well with a good washer… they have a larger mating surface

Another thing, the cheaper hoses have stamped or pressed fittings on the ends. The better hoses have cast or machined heavier fittings which make a better seal. Like said above, make sure you use good washers.

Here is what the angle fitting looks like, sometimes two washers work

I also like the quick couplers in brass, put them on the hose and leave them there.

I bought some bress hose to hose fittings for each end. They have much better surfaces for the conections.

Lowes or Home Depot I'm assuming?
