We are headed to Alaska this late spring 2010 (May/June) and will bring our two kayaks with us (hard shell Necky 14 and Cayuga 13). We love kayaking lakes, rivers and bays. Any favorite areas or suggestions for Alaska or on the way? Thanks in advance.

If you are interested e-mail me, and I'll attach our trip report from a four month trip that we did with our TT, mountain bikes and our two sea kayaks.
We paddled just about every place that you could in AK except for Kodiak Island and we would have paddled there, but couldn't make the ferry schedule.
We had awesome paddling all over AK.

Near Russian River there is a NWR CG called Hidden Lake. Spent 4 nights there - great paddling. If time/weather had allowed, water taxis transport kayaks to Kenai Fjords NP - saw a group in 1 of the bays there - park naturalist on our boat said it is a popular place to paddle/camp. Looked wonderful. We had our inflatable canoe with us, not hard-shells - so had to pick our spots a bit more carefully. Seems like there is also a SP on a lake in/near Eagle River that looked promising. Wanted to paddle off Homer Spit, but weather was non-conducive to such! Nice beaches around Ninilchik (?sp) to launch, too. ST

If you head south on A1 out of Anchorage, you drive along Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet. They have a tidal bore that runs up into the neck when the tide comes in. I've seen surfers on the waves. Don't know if it would be fun in a kayak or not.
