It was not a check, but I did send the salesman and the owner an email today so I would have something to show the date on it.

Well I recieved an email from the Mike Durnell (owner) and said he would refund my deposit in the morning, but also asked for a chance to let him get me passed my objections,so maybe I was getting worried for nothing, maybe it was a tactic by the salesperson to try and get a sell.Once again I dont have anything bad to say about them, they were very nice and have great prices, maybe they overstate how effective their "repair network" is,but all in all they were good to deal with (assuming I do get my deposit back). It just seems that IF you can get the same price locally, and thats a big IF,than that makes more sense.

That would have been my preference, but we couldn't find a better or even close deal near us so we bought from RVW twice. I spoke to Mike Durnell when we were buying our last TT and I think he's a fair guy. I also didn't think a whole lot of our salesman, but Mike tried to put things right. I hope everything goes well for you. Let us know.

You're worrying about potential, not fact. RVWholesalers, or any dealer, doesn't warrant the trailer. Forest River warrants the trailer. If you expect a dealer to "tighten loose screws and adjust little things" buy locally and pay a $4000 premium for this service. If you think you can do these things as well as a minimum-wage "mechanic" buy where you can save some money.

RVW is not going to just drop off the trailer and drive away. The trailer will have been thru a detailed pre-delivery inspection and you'll have an opportunity to inspect it before signing off on it.

Major warranty service will be handled by Forest River.

Adjusting a cabinet door is your job.

I bought mine used from an individual out of state. I've been doing my own maintenance but the local RV shops are great about being willing to work on it too if I need help. Sure, the people who bought new from them and are still under warranty get 1st priority but heck, after the first year those folks will be in the same boat that I'm in.

While I tend to agree with Chuck's statements for the most part, I have to take "the other side for a bit here...

Most of us - - - Chuck, myself, and others on these forums, are pretty handy and mechanically inclined, and working on an RV isn't much of a challenge... AAMOF, it's my "therapy" and I love doing it... BUT - - - there are others who do not know how to adjust a cabinet door, winterize, or even tighten loose screws, and may be quite intimidated by those tasks, or just plain don't want to do those things...

I once camped next to a family in the Wisconsin Dells who were exactly like that - they had a large Class A motorhome and they didn't know how, and they didn't want to know, how to do those things... AAMOF, when dinner time came, they picked up their cell phone, called a restaurant in town and had them deliver dinner to the campground - really - honest - every single day !!

The point of warranty service when buying from a wholesaler has been discussed many times before on this forum... Some didn't have problems finding service, some did, and some do the service themselves... A dealer taking care of their own customers first is not an unusual circumstance and pretty much standard thru any service industry that also sells the product... They also have the right to refuse to work on the item if you didn't purchase it from them... There are "pros and cons" to each type of purchasing, and only you can make the decision you feel fits your needs...

My advice would be to do whatever you feel comfortable with... I have purchased RV's away from home before and felt fine with it... When a warranty issue came up, I had a 2 hour drive to the dealer in another state - wasn't a problem for me...

My current TT I bought locally and got about the same deal as I could found elsewhere - perhaps a few dollars more, but not a bad deal... When it was time for service, it was just a 10 minute pull to the dealer and more often than not, my dealer just gave me the parts at my request and I installed them which was easier for me than hooking up the TT and towing it over to my dealer... Then, I returned the warranty parts next time I was there - worked for me and worked for him... On occasion, I would tow the rig for him and that went well too...

I would suggest that before you "hit the panic button" here, you speak to Mr. Durnell and hear what he has to say... Perhaps he can lay your fears to rest - perhaps not - but give it a try first before you make a decision... And consider that with all the talent on this forum, making simple repairs is not a difficult thing to do... Every day I see people ask for advice, go to their rig and fix a problem with the help of other members on this forum... Not a bad way to do things - expanding your horizons and saving a few bucks in the process...

Good luck with the purchase ...

Les

I agree with Chuck and Les. You need to do what you feel is right for you. Most repairs that may be needed are really simple. We purchased from RVW and what few items that needed fixing, I did myself with the exception of the refrigerator recall which I took to a local dealer and they did the work. They also agreed to do any service work that may be required in the future. I don't think I would buy from a dealer that said they would not fix an RV I had purchased from another dealer. There is to much mobility in todays world.

No doubt this forum is full of help,If the local dealer is matching the price, and by matching I mean the bottom line from rvwholesalers so you include their delivery charge which I would have to pay if I bought from them, then it seems that would be the way to go because when it comes time to service it or warranty, the local dealer will be there for you,for those of you living up and around Ohio, you cant get a better deal than rvwhloesalers because you dont pay the delivery charge.

I started getting concerned about buying from so far away(im in Florida)
So now Im to the point were I dont want to buy a HTT from so far away.
A local dealer is willing to match their price and I think it makes much more sense to buy local
what do you guys think?Thanks

Rick--
just curious IF you had tryed the local dealer before you ordered from them? Since they are willing to match now, probably would have before?
Also, IF they are willing to match price and you lose your $400, you should still come out ahead for what the return trip tp pick up would cost you?

Good luck whatever route you take--

We bought our 23SS from RVW and it was a good experience - on the whole. Had a salesman who placed our original order, but one thing led to another and we ended up talking to David Durnell. The problems were two-fold - - FR didn't get around to mfg our special order unit and our "DUH" salesman didn't follow up like he should. When David got involved, we got a new salesman and our ROO in 1 day. We have had good results when we needed a couple of warranty items - DH did the installation himself on those. I suppose that if our local dealer had come anywhere close to their price, we would have bought locally. But $$$$ is $$$$! Have never had the occasion to deal with their network. Suggest you tell Mike exactly what you have posted here and get his response. I believe contracts have a 3-day period when you can cancel with no penalty. Think probably 99% of those who have bought from RVW have been satisfied - hope your situation gets resolved quickly and to your satisfaction. Please post the results.
