Here's was I did a couple of years ago (attached a cargo carrier for the purpose of carrying a sound box enclosure for a generator). Here are some pictures of that set up.

And here's a testimonial from one of my fellow moderators who also posted the most recent pictures showing the muffler relocation.

Something to consider to keep the noise police at bay.
