I'd like to know the experiences of others who have pulled this combination. We're looking for our 1st FW & noticed this 06' for sale. Our TV is a 2004. Weight, as the trailer sits w/ gen & lp is 12,300#. Don't know the hitch weight. GVWR on the FW is listed as 15,800#. I believe it's too much for the truck. Other's experiences & opinions please.

I have an uncle that thinks just because a truck has a Diesel it can tow anything, he would tell you no problem. I have never listened to that uncle when I am buying something that I have to pay insurance on. That is to much trailer for a 3/4 ton single tire vehicle period. I own both dual wheel and single wheel trucks we use everyday at my shop. That load needs a dual wheel truck to safely transport it.

I pulled my lighter 5er with a 2500 SRW for a year. Although I never felt unsafe or under powered (except in mountains), I am much more relaxed and confident with the 1 ton dually diesel.

From my experience and research you will find that that fiver will have 3000 pounds of pin weight. The truck will scale ready to camp right at 7000 pounds. So bottom line is you will scale 10K on a truck with a GVWR of 9200 pounds. So if you decide to tow this fiver you will need air bags, springs, tires and wheel upgrades to handle the extra load.
IMHO I would NEVER again consider that much fiver on a 3/4 to truck.

I to believe you'll be over your GVWR and GCWR, having said that there will be many who will tell you your fine. Just look up the post about "hauling heavy RV's" after you view the photos then decide. Good luck

My experience is 40,000 miles towing a Jayco Designer 36RLTS with 2004 Chevy 2500HD Duramax over a 4 year period. I've made 2 trips from New Jersey to the West Coast & many other trips around the country. You will be better served if you make some laterations on your truck such as heavier tires & rear suspension timbrens or airbags. You do not need a dually. You must make your own decision though.

Your call, However I highly suspect that you will excedd both the GVWR and GCWR of your truck with that 5th wheel.

As with gestanton, we pulled ours (11,700 dry)with a 2500 D/A Combo, also for about a year. We never had issues with pulling or handeling ... and never felt unsafe, but much more relaxed and confident with the 3500 dually D/A in Sig.

Our 2500 was a 2004 D/A combo, 5" exhaust, Super Springs, Air Intake, upgraded tires and Banks 6 gun. Did great ... but again, more relaxed with the 2006 dually. Only thing I've added is the Edge w/Attitude ... but really didn't need it!

You can do it, but you WILL be over the rated #'s of the 2500.
