I raise mine so as when I back in it lifts the trailer ever so slightly.

I like to have the pin a fraction of a nats behind higher, many times I hook up with the DW in the 5er and it is best not to disturb her.

I assume you're looking for the distance between the bottom plate of the king pin box and the top plate of the hitch.

I keep mine so it just barely lifts the trailer, that way I can't back beyond the king pin.

I never get mine the same each time. I just eyeball it, back in and if I am too high, I just lower it some more. If I am low, the truck will just squat down a bit as I back in.

You don't want to get hung up on minutia like this. You don't carry a tape measure for this stuff, just eyeball it.

Tilt the truck hitch all the way toward the rear. Lower the trailer so that it's hitch plate contacts the truck hitch plate about half way up. This may not lift the trailer off the ground depending on the weight load then placed on your truck.

See figure 8 on this document. The hitch plate and pinbox plate should scrub everytime you hitch. When Unhitching, you should separate about 1/4".
