Is anyone familiar with attic ventilation system? How critical it is to have one in a 5th wheel having wooden trusses in its roof?

Thank you for all replies.

Some of the higher end units have it and they sell it as critical on units that will see full-time or extended stay use. Makes perfect sense to me given the critical nature of ventilating your house attic, most contractor's follow a strict formula of square footage to total ventilation area.

If you plan on using a rig for frequent extended use you may want to consider a coach equipped with this feature.

Actually, my Citation Supreme 5th wheel has it installed. I'm just curious about what happens over there, in the attic. Most of us will never see the innards after a few years of being exposed to the elements.

I hope that someone with some practical experience dealing with roofs and so on will respond.

I would think it would work no different then your house. In extreme weather changes or humidity I have been up there and the vents move/circulate air. Do you have a specific concern like mold?

I would think that vents are nessasary whether it's wood or aluminiom, mine has attic vents and I have aluminium trusses.

Does your S&B have an attic that is exposed to the elements? Neither does your trailer.

Perhaps, or worse, like rotting trusses and plywood. It is a dead space there without air circulation.

Personally: the so called attic ventilation system offered on most coaches must be magic because there needs to be airflow to have ventilation and if they insulate these things to the R-values they publish it does not leave any room for airflow! Sounds like a lot of baloney to me. JMHO

There must be different "method's" for attic construction. We have a '98 Champagne 38', with the "attic". There are 5 vents on the roof to ventilate the space. No magic.

Exactly the point; there is no space!
