My ac unit has started staining the ceiling around the unit. There has been no substantial rain so what could be going on here. Help me before the stain gets too bad...Thanks

There is a gasket around the unit on the roof. It is put on and four bolts hold the unit to the roof. They require snugging to make up for the gasket compressing due to age and compression due to road vibration. Find them, and snug them each about the same. They usualy are at the four corners of the opening where the cover is inside. Don't tighten more than needed as you can flatten the gasket. You should have no leak when done. The only other problem may be the roof unit has leaves and dirt plugging the weep holes in the condensation tray,(which is the bottom of the unit on the roof). That has to be accessed taking the plastic shroud off and cleaning the leaves out so the usualy 4 holes can allow the water of condensatin out. You could be getting some rain water in too, if rain has been blowing sideways. That will dripp out of the weep holes too, if they are open not plugged. Turn off unit before climbing up to fix it. You usualy need a philips screw driver to take off the screws holding the shroud on. Be carefull taking it off, as some older ones get brittle and crack or break. If that happens you can patch it with plastic body filler and fiberglass, or replace it,(about $100). If the gasket is real old and has been compressed to a point where it can't be tightened, you may need a new one installed. Good luck.

i think it could be condensation....if you have been running the unit the water has to go somewhere...the normal drain could be plugged and the water is backing up into the inside. If it quits when you dont run the a/C ...you found the source

If you are leaving a window open inside this can also make it weep.

I had the same type of problem a few years ago and the problem was the holes in the drain pan were clogged. Clean the holes and the problem was gone. Easy fix.

I had the same problem, when I got home I went on the roof and took the cover off and seen the little drip channel under the condenser had a weep hole on each end was plugged with dirt. Cleaned it out, no problems.

As above, I had the same problem and after tightening the four screws/bolts from inside, have had no more problems. I had to replace one of the screws as it was stripped. I took the stripped one with me to Ace Hardware and matched it with a new one, worked fine. The only difference is the old screw had a hex head and the new one has a phillip head.

Guys
I got up on the roof and took the top off. cleaned the drain holes out but it didnt seem to make alot of difference. There is a drain on both sides of the condinsor that drains through holes in the pan. It drains under the pan not out of it. Do you think it might be the gasket lettin it in?? Its a duo therm.

I wonder if it would help if you caulked around it, couldn't hurt
