I'm thinking of heading over to Pismo Beach for some clamming. Has anybody done that? How was the experience? Tips?

TIA

Been 40 years since I clammed at Pismo.
This Review doesn't sound promising.

Check with the ranger before you buy a fishing license.
Often there are no clams large enough to find keep.

I go there all the time.

I see a lot of tourists trying to clam but from what the locals tell me the otters have obliterated the clam population.

The local clam chowder is made from clams flown in or trucked in as there aren't any left in Pismo.

If you want to clam head to Oregon beaches. It is a fantastic experience there and they eat great.

Pismo is a great beach and nice place to hang out. As for clamming; you can do it but you won't get any clams.
