We are planning on going from Eugene West to Florence then down 101 to Eureka tomorrow. Are there any serious issues on this road for a 40 footer towing? We're thinking of staying at the KOA in Eureka unless someone suggests something better around there. We figure it will take no longer than 10 hours we hope.

Also is there an agricultural checkpoint into California on this route. We already lost apples and potatoes coming into the USA which was our bad so just wondered if it was going to happen again.

You wont see any produce stops on 101 from oregon, you will see them on 5 and coming from the east. enjoy, the 101 is a great drive and if you can go a little farther and see the Big Trees Its not that far for a day trip. bob

We have driven our 43' (with toad) from Eugene to Eureka and no problems or issues. It is a scenic drive. Look for the wild Roosevelt Elk below Smith River. There are some real nice bucks in there.
Ten hours is a good figure for the drive. Personally, I would break it up into two days drive, staying at one of the RV parks from Coos Bay to Gold Beach.
Enjoy!

No issues driving from Eugene, Oregon to the coast. Which ever road you take will be no problem. I belong to 1000trails so we stayed at their preserves in Florence, but there were other RV parks around the area. The drive is kind of slow because you will be going through several seaside communities, but very interesting. Thousands of coaches travel that route, so a 40 footer is no problem. Enjoy the Giant Redwoods. They are amazing. No agriculture inspection stations along that route. Fact I don't remember seeing one on Interstate 5 like somebody mentioned from Eugene south. Maybe further north on I-5 at the Washington, Oregon borderline. We also stayed at an RPI in Klamath right next to Cresent city. Several RV parks in that area, just don't attempt to go into any state parks. I only have a 38' DP and I thought I was going to cut some trees to get out.

There is a bug check station on 101 just a couple of miles into CA.

Take your time and enjoy. There no problems areas except for the normal delays for road construction. Coos Bay is a nice stop over. The Mill Casino has large free parking area where you can overnight.

Might want to go down and take Hwy 38 across vs. Hwy 126, its a much nicer road, more pull outs and passing lanes.

Thanks all for the information. We are loking forward to this Coast drive as it has been 40 years since we last did it. We are trying to make some time to see friends in Napa but they do not want us to miss the enjoyment of the trip so may just take a day longer for the drive.

Thanks again.
