We've been with AT&T cellular for years. Have it on our cell and also Internet, tethering the phone to the computer. We are fulltimers who travel a lot and today they advised us that we will no longer have access to the free roaming after 11/23. Our home base is in FL and we're now in CA. Don't plan on being back home until next winter. Looks like we have to find other cell and Internet service. What are the best options for our situation? Thanks for any help.

Is it because you have the computer tethered to the phone ?
I use AT&T for my cell phone service but only use it for making voice calls.. do not have it tethered to computer..

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.
The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

We have been with Sprint for a decade for cell service and 4 years for air card. They have worked well for us across the country and even parts of Canada and Alaska. (extra charges in Canada). Given the time constraint you are in, I would recommend contacting the 3gstore.com. Best overall coverage across the US seems to be Verizon or Sprint. Several folks on here recommend US Cellular but don't think that will work if you have a Florida address as your domicile.

We've been happy with Verizon for many years, nine of those years fulltiming. We have both a cell phone and computer air card with Verizon. While it isn't cheap, and the service is sometimes marginal (rarely), we have maintained the plan with free roaming. We've had no unexpected charges. Others may have similar satisfaction with another cell service, so I hope they add their comments.

Was a REASON for the ouster given? Seems a little unusual to not at least give a reason for ditching a long time customer. I'd be interested in hearing the rest of the story since it's always nice to know what might be coming down the road.

Wow, I've never heard of such a thing!!! I've used verizon - cell and air card, for the past 4 years. Excellent coverage. I have 2 cell lines - 800 minutes, and a USB737 aircard - my monthly bill is about $140, $60 of that is the aircard. I don't know if that is expensive compared to other providers, but being a FTer, it is more important to me that I have good coverage. What would be the point of saving a few dollars if you have sporadic service?

I believe it's in most cell phone contracts that if you use too much roaming they reserve the right to cut you off.
Check out Straight Talk cell phone service.

I posted similar to this back in Feb. 09 and received a bunch of criticism from everyone for not doing something correct thereby causing AT&T to drop us. We were told that we were too long out of area and over run our out of area service. Like you we had the entire service, two phones and the air card. We have gone to Verizon and save money, the rates are lower and the service is better. Good luck and maybe it’s just not me!

As far as cellphone goes, you can pick up a prepaid cellphone at Walmart, Kmart or any number of places. No contract, no roaming and uses ATT towers. I dropped ATT over a year ago after about 15 years. NET10 does everything I did with my ATT which is to make and receive calls anywhere in the US.
For internet I have Satellite but there are many other options. I have saved several hundred dollars last year using NET10 instead of ATT contract BS.
