I think I remember you mentioning that before - didn't you have 5R in Golden do it? That's how they made their name I think....

Brian,

You are 100% correct. 5R (Steve/Owner) was the one that did my conversion. They are also the ones that built up my 1999 F450 for me. Come to find out after I started working with Steve that he only lived about a mile from me on Easley Rd in Golden. A great place if you ever need anything done on your rig. They will custom build almost anything for you.

ON EDIT: I forgot to respond to the question about if us 450/550 owners use our trucks without our campers. Presently I don't use my F550 that much without the camper as I also have a Dodge 3500 SB SRW pickup. But when I had my F450 it was my only truck and I drove it every day to work without the camper. If I go down to just one truck it will be my F550 and it will be my daily driver when I want to run to the store or some place (retired don't need to drive it every day then). I'm presently on another job but when this one finishes up that is it I'm through coming out of retirement to do just one more job, besides getting to old for it.

I use the truck often without the camper. Class C has one use, besides massive annual depreciation . . . while TC is more flexible, reaches more places, takes up less room, can pull toys and provide a usable vehicle to and from campsite.

I am on my 3rd Ford Dually, the first two were F350s and the current one is an F550. Each one of these duallies has been excellent trucks. I used the first two to pull a 48 ft 5th Wheel PACE Trailer. The current truck is for the LANCE Truck Camper.

I will get an occasional question to; “Why did I not just get a Class C?” Which is a good question, as it might have been cheaper and easier to put together than what I have now. My answer is much the same as Brian’s, but additionally in that I did not want to be married to one vehicle. What I mean by this is; What if I wanted to change the truck (powerplant) to a different one, due to it being worn out or I just lusted after a different truck? This would have been hard to do if was built into the Class C unit. What if I wanted a different Truck Camper (living quarters), because I wanted to go smaller or lusted after a different one? I would have been stuck with the Class C because the camper was built into the truck.

So the bottom line is that I like the variability of making a change, if I need to or want to.

Mooney... towing your aircraft carrier/party pontoon boat probably makes you the max allowable length on the highway.... and NO class C would be able to pass the first transmision shop towing it

Almost every transmission shop that we've pasted during our travels has had a Class A, or class C MH waiting for service... and they didn't appear to be towing anything... maybe overloaded with junk.
