ennajean, I'll probably post something from time-to-time especially if it's 80 degrees where we are and it's -20 in Wisconsin, I'm a terrible person (head hanging in shame).

Wayne, I believe you’re actually a sunbird, but it's the same principal, just backwards.

Davydd, we use our RV’s more in the winter because we always seem to be too busy in the summer to travel. We plan lots of trips but something always comes up. Winter is quiet time here in the Northwood’s, so we might as well go someplace warm and different.

Ches, we met a lot of Canadians in the TX State Parks last year and many were traveling in class B’s. I don’t think you have to concern yourself with feeling lost, especially in Texas where everyone will just consider you a Winter Texan.

glassgirl, never been to Skidaway Island SP, found it on an RV park rating site where everyone was rating it extremely high, glad to hear you like it, should be fun.

tandemrider, I was surprised by the number of class B’s we saw last year in TX. When we stayed at Lost Maples SP there were 5 of us one night out of about 15 total campers.

Dandie D, hope you find nice weather soon, I always hate traveling in windy, cold rain, especially when I have to take the dogs out to potty. They don’t appreciate it much, either.

Right after New Years, I'm heading down to the Tampa FL area as a home base to look around in FL for a permanent snowbird spot for future winters. I plan to explore the Everglades, Key West, Naples, Cape Canavarel and other spots from there. My sister lives near Tampa in St. Pete's Beach so there is no added living costs to stay there.

We are torn between getting a TT to pull with our RT (to use at RV resorts) or to simply rent a condo and park the B there as our primary vehicle.

We are not snowbirds but do frequently go to Florida in the winter.A couple of reminders. We were in Tampa area the middle of january last year for a leisure travel rally and I had to go buy a winter coat. Cold! Also, NEVER go I95 between Savannah and Jacksonville between Christmas and New Year unless you love traffic as bad or worse than rush hour traffic in DC or Atlanta. We were bumper to bumper for hours! Evidently snowbirds and bowl game traffic. To end on a positive note, as I have said before, Florida has some of the lovliest state parks anywhere.

The bulk of our travel is in the spring and fall. In the summer we tend to stay closer to home and usually the parks in Minnesota. Winter, especially Thanksgiving through New Years has been family time at home.

Marsh & Mary & Sam & Buster.

We are newbie’s to Class B world. We did a short trip from Mass. to Ohio and a short trip to MI when we learned how to reset the LP furnace. The instructions were for a pull trailer so I had to rewrite for our PW Sprinter.

We are currently planning a tour similar to yours. We will start in Columbus, OH immediately after Christmas and head for Charleston, SC. Spend two or three days seeing plantations etc. Next, down the Georgia coast spending a few days visiting spots of opportunity (recommendations welcome). Amelia Island then any other of Florida is up for grabs. On over to Fair Hope, AL to see kids then to Biloxi to loose a few coins in those noisy one armed machines. Next we head for Houston to see relatives (again recommendations welcome driving from Biloxi to Houston) Starting February first, we drive to lake Corpus Christi 10-day stay then to Goose Island 10 day stay. Visit San Antonio a few days then make our way back to Columbus as weather permits arriving first part of March.

We finally made it past Portland today..First an accident on I-5 just
before Seattle..then a few heavy rain storms (for some reason they are
referred to as "showers" on the radio )but hopefully we will make
it to California (the land of milk & honey.)

Hi JoeRT04... I usually spend 3 months in the area of Florida that you mentioned. Here's the place I stay... www.thegladesresort.com It's within an hour or so of the attractions you mentioned, reasonably priced, and even has a golf course on site. Have a look.

p.s. I am not in any way on their payroll. I just like the place and I think you might too.

JoeRT04, oddly enough we are also looking for a permanent home base area. We’ve already decided on a TT, but don’t want to be pinned down to one RV Park. I discussed it in a thread last month in the Snowbird forum and got some information, the thread can be found here: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/23324143.cfm

glassgirl, your point is well taken, we still havn't decided where we will spend Christmas, but we'll probably be far from any major cities when the final frenzied rush starts.

Davydd, we are looking forward to spending Thanksgiving (my favorite winter holiday) with our families, but Christmas has become too high pressure, we both think the families might benefit from having a peaceful quiet celebration, rather than dashing from one house to the other, so everyone gets to see each other. Anyway, we'll see how that goes, I expect some sadness and tears when DW realizes how far away we are from everyone, but that's what cell phones are good for.

chuckspirit, with a new RV try to avoid the problems I detailed here: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/22294287.cfm
I hope I learned my lesson last year, my DW is under strict orders to let me know when I'm pushing too hard, because we both know I'll do it again .

omjones & Me&Ma:

Thank you for your references. They're helpful. I'm going to save the Glades link so when I go to the Everglades, I can stay there for a few days.

My DW & I are not completely sold on the TT idea but it is one of the top choices on our list.

The glades resort seems reasonable to me. I've looked at a couple in the Ft. Myers area that are more pricey. The Glades resorts looks nice enough.

I'm going to be using the RT this winter for snowbirding & for exploratory purposes.

I'm thinking it might be better to just rent a condo for a couple of months each year and use the RT as the primary vehicle to tour FL. I dunno... We will see... Perhaps having a special account for renting the condo and not buying a new TT might be the way to go. There is less hassle with maintenance on the TT, etc IMO.

Ron, I plan to head back to the Cape in February. I know January is the coldest month in FL but it sure beats the cold up north! The DW has one more year to work and then we are free to go together when we please. Who knows, maybe I'll change my mind when I see the temps going on up north and just stay in FL. I'll contact you in that case. (My DW will love that!) LOL!

I may go either way in my snowbirding plans.
