The tent and vehicle belonged to the victims - Charles and Shirley Chick. They had registered for the campsite 3 days earlier. They were shot multiple times with a small caliber gun and robbery is suspected as a motive. I worked with Mr Chick and you absolutely could not ask to meet a finer person. He and his wife enjoyed tent camping, nature, hiking, and each other's company. The Winding Stair campground is a remote camping area in a National recreation Area near the Talimina Loop - one of the prettiest drives in the country in the Oachita mountains (OK and AR)

NOT taking a gun camping is what is stupid!!!!!! You never know when it may be needed and it like having sway control. If you need it, its to late to put time on hold until you can get one.

Obviously, AustinJenna are not from the planet TEXAS. Down here, it's nothing to be out having a great time camping, or fishing, or hunting, while packing a gun. It's just a different culture I guess, not better, just different. I'm glad there's an NRA that speaks on our behalf. I ain't been murdered either....and, I reckon I won't be. Happy trails.

Really, It must be taking of care of it somewhat becuase (sic) I haven't been murdered yet.

And this, dear friends, is what's commonly know as "proof by assertion". Sheer falacy, but I'm sure she feels better having said it. Of course, by this same (il)logic.....

She has no smoke detectors ("My house has never burned down")
She has no fire extinguishers in the RV ("My RV has never caught fire")
She has no life insurance ("I'm still alive")
Never wears seat belts ("I've never been in a serious wreck")

and blah, blah, blah......

Oh, and never uses birth control ("I've never....)

Horse. Dead. Beating.

IMO, neither side is going to change a single mind arguing. But, heck, fire away!

Jim, "How can I miss you if you won't go away?"

It's a sad story and a sadder fact of life that everyone feels they need to carry a sidearm or a sawed off shot gun!

Help me out here - how do you keep from being shot in your tent in your sleep? Do you take shifts - one sleeps while the other stands guard?

Carrying a gun to take your dog out to do his business at night while hubby stands guard with another weapon doesn't sound very restful! Sounds like you'd need a vacation when you get home.

I'm not being critical here, but curious! Are there any Americans on this forum who don't feel they have to carry a weapon when RVing?

I was in Law enforcement not too far from where you are in Ohio and I can tell you that I would have a gun with me when I camp in ohio too. I don't live there anymore but did and what I saw and any Law Enforcement officer could is that they usually repond after the fact and very rarely while the event is going on unless by accident or in a crowded enough area that someone away from the dsirect scene calls it in. You have to take care of your self and your loved ones. But if you don't want to that is fine. I just hope you are not all alone and counting on the kindness of some hyped up dopehead or someone who just wants the thrill of killing (DC Sniper).

Just a thought. The police are there to protect and serve and remember when they were first established it was to protect property as much as life.
