We use Express Network for faster service. 144k if you are lucky. Then if we are in a bind. The cell phone and Moble Web at SLOW speed. They have a thing called Venturi compression software that makes pages load a bit quicker but I am not sold on it.

I have used Verizon since February. I have used the 1x (Express network) several times, but it is expensive!
I've been using the plain old dial up over the telephone on weekends (unlimited minutes) and it is slow but functional. If someone is sending you 1 or 2 megabyte pictures or attachments, good luck it'll take a while. On the 1x network the cost is $9 per megabyte or whatever your plan says. I think they have added an up to 20 meg 1X network fee for $34.00 a month. Would be worth it if you use that volume monthly.
After getting over the cost, I found the set up and reliablility quite good here in the Mid Atlantic states. I often travel to dog shows on weekends and frequently am in the middle of fields trying to connect. If I have even a 1 bar signal on my phone I can connect.
I'm using the Samsung SCH-A310 phone and a usb cable from Samsung for the phone.

We use Verizon Quick Net 14.4. In all but just a couple of places we, where we were not in Verizon digital, we hook up at 115.2. It cost us $55 for software and cable. Verizon is our ISP at no charge.

Check the Yahoo RV communication user group website for lots of info on using your cell phone with your laptop. This topic was extensively discussed a couple of months ago.

I have been using a Motorola 120e phone with my laptop for a couple on months on Verizon Express Network. The popular "America's Choice" plan now includes EN coverage using MOU (minutes of use). If you use it after-hours (7:00pm-7:00am) or on weekends, there is no charge, great for Internet surfing. On a recent trip from LA to Washington State, I had coverage almost the entire way, including some out of the way places.

I use the Mobile Office kit that includes the cable and the software needed to make it all happen. The speed is much faster than a dial-up connection. Buy the kit on-line from Verizon; it’s much cheaper than the store prices.
